KCNL is stunting with a message in English saying they’re building a radio station that will go on the air today at 5 PM.

KCNL has been Spanish pop or AC for the last year and two months.

http://www.channel1049.com/ has the visual on this one...

Article in SJ Mercury today about it
"...The station plans an ambitious new lineup, which will include listeners picking what to play and announcing songs from mobile studios built into two Scions that will rove the area...
The station dropped its Spanish programming at 3 p.m. Monday, replacing it with construction sounds. At 5 p.m. today, the new music will debut...
It will skew more toward older listeners than before, focusing on a 25- to 34-year-old audience, not unlike that of San Francisco's KITS-FM (105.3)....."

Cool!!! Channel 104.9 is back!! YAY!

Will they revert to the Channel 104.9 name?

Any word on who the DJ's will be?

Another way to look at this is that the sale of Clear Channel to private investors may include the sell off of grandfathered staitons, per FCC market definiton policy. In this case, the San Jose "market" stations would have to be sold, and the "station in a box" Channel format will be cheap to run and make for a better sale prospect.

I wonder what's gonna be put on there???Any guesses? Country, Top 40,Alternative,Rock,Dance,Hip-Hop,Jack type station, oldies, what do you think?

It's in the article... 25-34 oriented Alternative.

According to FMQB they're bringing in the former Channel 104.9 PD/MD and bring back the same format as before.

Listen LIVE online. Insert the following into your Windows Media player/winamp:

Re: It's a Beautiful Day

After a montage of CHANNEL MUSIC, a mix of golds and currents from the previous Alt incarnation of Channel 104.9 the first song was U2' s "Beautiful Day"..

Hmm.. I wonder IF and HOW LIVE 105 will react?

I guess they aren't the only one's "Keeping Alternative Music Alive" Anymore..

First, compare the Live signal to KCNL. Live has little to worry about. Second, if Clear goes private, they pretty much have to sell the San Jose stations... starting with the worst signal, KCNL.

True, but 104.9 had beaten LIVE 105 pretty hands down in San Jose in the last few books before Clear Channel flipped it..

But the revnue is in San Francisco. It rarely matters what the SJ numbers are as they are also included in the San francisco market totals. SJ is not a separate market... it is an embedded market.

Impressive! The first hour sounded great. This time they sound much more 25 plus-friendly than the previous incarnation was. Maybe they'll have better luck than last time.

They actually had good luck last time.

#3 P18-49 (English), #5 Overall
#1 P18-34 over all
(Fall '06 Arbitron, there final survey)

The luck is in the billing, and San Jose is a tough market at this point.
