KCNL

Allacess reports that KCNL 104.9 is about to move out of the Aloha Trust and transfer to Principle Broadcasting out of Buffalo NY.
Prinicple owns KLOK. Principle specializes in brokered time/block programming. The deal was announced back in Nov.

They picked up the signal for only FIVE Million. Amazing!

Yeah, it broke my heart when I first heard about it. KGO could have bought it and gotten its sorely needed FM voice.

But we all know, KGO is too damn talk-radio for FM...

[spoof of the old KEEN slogan, yeah]

Wait a minute, I noticed you switched from "They PAY me to mess with radio gear?!". To, "They PAID me to mess with radio gear?!". What happened?!

Do you hear Energy 92.7 on the air any more?

Yes, but under a new name, and on HD radio. I thought you were working for 92.7 REV?

"Pulse" (99.7 HD2) isn't Energy and never will be, admirable effort though it is. BTW the name is due to Aaron Fonseca via St. John...

As for the current 92.7, Ed likes to do his own engineering, and hasn't requested my help for anything substantial for months. I'm out of broadcasting for the time being. Dunno what he's gonna do if he's up on Mt. Potosi and something goes bad in SF, but I wish him best of luck with it.

How long do you think before any changes are made at 92.7? The ratings are just...sad.

Have KCNL slightly change their format? It seems that they are playing more Contemporary Spanish AC than Spanish oldies. Especially hearing RBD "Ser o Parece"

New ownership takeover any day now. The format will vary throughout the day.

I read in All Access that Ed hired a new VP of Programming. Hopefully he'll at least execute the format better than the last guy who let a lot of things slide. Whether the all-top-40 format is even workable in the Bay Area is a whole other debate, one in which I'm not fit to engage.

I guess thats nice to know... I was thinking Ed didn't even care about the station, 92.7 Rev and 104.3 Now FM in Las Vegas sound like a dump. Bring it back to the regular owners.

Ed cares about the place(s), but he's an engineer not a programmer. He depends on the skills of others to drive the programming. The new VP of programming has his work cut out for him, tightening up the delivery on those stations and getting skilled people hired on.

They seem to be operating on an assumption that all they need to do is play full-top-40 music and listeners will flood in. Not sure if that works with Bay Area demographics... according to Don Parker (former Energy PD/OM and current Ops Mgr at Clear Channel SF), the last station to play that format was Z95.7 and its hot zip-codes were in Contra Costa co. and SJ, both places where 92.7 doesn't reach well if at all. To do well in SF, they'd need to street team the hell out of it, and last I saw there's *no* promotion going on at all.

As for bringing back the "regular" owners, let someone offer Ed $10 million and I'm sure something might be worked out for the SF/Alameda station.

Those have to be some of the kindest words ever said about the man. He certainly has a passion for engineering from what I've been told.

That he does. And he was actually pretty fun to work with on the few occasions he decided he needed help.
