KCOP News

Well, it should say KCAL News on CBS Los Angeles. KCBS doesn't go by CBS 2 anymore, unlike its NYC counterpart and flagship (at times, especially during their news).

TiVo customer service says the listings are based on what the stations provide. If "CBS 2" is wrong then CBS isn't updating the information with TiVo.

And when KCOP rebranded (coming back to near the original topic), the "MyNetwork" logo disappeared from the guide (it now just says "KCOPDT") and when I asked TiVo they said Fox asked for it to be removed. Apparently they are under the delusion that the "Fox 11 Plus" logo would be substituted, oblivious to the fact that TiVo only displays logos for national networks.

As a result, only channels 9-1 and 13-1 do not have logos in my program guide. (I'm sure there are many subchannels without logos but the guide channel lineup is user-selectable.)

I'm assuming that, as we have seen in many other markets with multiple cable systems, channel numbers are increasingly irrelevant as OTA viewing lessens over time.

In The Desert we have two parallel cable systems, and each has different channel assignments. One of the two major operators decided to simply become "NBC Palm Springs" with no channel mentioned.

Palm Springs only had 2 full powered commercial FTA stations but its kinda interesting that Charter carries KABC and KNBC aside from KESQ and KMIR. KCAL was available on Charter's Palm Springs, Bakersfield, and San Luis Obispo systems.

Proof of this ... you will rarely (if ever) find a channel number attached to one of the diginet OTA subchannels. Example: I receive MeTV via a simulcast of network-owned KAZA/56.1 on KDOC/56.3, and the "bug" in the corner says "MeTV LOS ANGELES". And the TiVo guide has the main MeTV logo in place of the call letters in the guide. It still says "56-3" next to that, but that is irrelevant because if you click from the guide it goes to that channel.

I would guess that fewer than 1% of DVR users ever manually enter channel numbers. (Very likely the same for cable users with set top boxes.)

Since kcop will now air news in primteime at least on weeknights, will they consider putting news on kcop on weekend mornings as well? It appears the stations want to expand their newscasts.
