You make some very intelligent, well-reasoned and thought-provoking points there... How can I argue with that???
At no point did I say KKRQ had a _bad_ format, just that it skews older and the music selection wasn't my cup of tea. (I believe I made liberal use of the phrase "in my opinion".) Obviously the thing is getting numbers. With Bob & Tom leading off the day and no more competition in the market, they're in a good position. Add Shawna Roberts on the midday and a vet like McGill on afternoon drive, and they've got a winner on their hands. Just because I say that I _personally_ don't like the music doesn't mean it's not working. Geez. Did you secretly read comments about your mom into my post, too?
"renegade pirate", "insignificant joke"..call it whatever makes you feel better. The bottom line is I'm having more fun while having more responsibility than I've ever had in this industry. Oh, and I'm making more money, too.

We have a loyal listening base, bill well, and get good numbers in Johnson County (from what I've been told by people who have the ability to break down the numbers, of course). Oh, and the ultimate end-all and be-all decisions come from across the hall, not Atlanta, Cincinnati, etc. And the station actually gets to KEEP the money it makes!
I also get to work for a true community radio station. Steve told me when I started that local public service was going to be a big part of my job. We don't just shuffle off the public affairs programming to a 10-minute segment on Sunday mornings. We actually use the station to HELP people who need it. That's a good feeling. (And not just the corporately-mandated "YAY FOR THE TROOPS!"-type PR events, either.)
I don't know many people still in this industry (and I'm guessing you are or were at some point yourself) who trully LOVE their jobs anymore. They may enjoy it, and it's certainly better than slicing meat in a deli (with apologies to Tony Kornheiser). But do they really LOVE going into work every day?
If so, more power to you. I'm glad you found your calling. I found my "happy place". It's a locally owned mom-and-pop radio station in a cornfield. And I don't need to apologize for it.
ADDENDUM: This wasn't meant to come off as an anti-corporate radio tirade. All I did was say I personally prefer the music selection on Q106.5 over what KKRQ is playing right now. How this became about me and KCJJ, I have no idea...
And hopefully I won't have to bring anyone's mom into this.
