KCRG TV9

Any TV9 watchers/employees here? I have to say that TV9 is my favorite station in the area. Bruce Aune and Beth Malicki are outstanding co-anchors. Ashley Hinson and Claire Kellett also are very enjoyable to watch. As far as reporters go, Josh Hinkle and Mark Geary do great.

There are a lot of young--yet very professional--faces at KCRG. Being younger myself, I really like that. It feels like I could speak to these people conversationally, yet they present themselves in such a respectable manner.

I loved the fact that they had footage of Beth and her family right after she had her new baby. Felt like she trusted her viewers enough to let them up close and personal. I liked that. Noone can compete.

Most of those people came from KOMU in Columbia, which is owned by the University of Missouri and staffed with students from the School of Journalism. I think Ashley Hinson and Bruce Aune were the only ones you mentioned who didn't. Beth Malicki went from a journalism student to lead anchor in, I believe, either '98 or '99, and all full-time KOMU staff also work as faculty at the School of Journalism. A couple of the radio stations I worked for had relationships with KOMU. Beth Malicki used to fill-in on 101.5 KPLA mornings when Sarah Hunter was on vacation, and she's a very interesting person. She has an incredible amount of energy and is a lot different in person than she was on the air, or at least that was the case when she was in Columbia. She also came within one day of qualifying for our "In-Labor Labor Day Weekend" having one of her kids the day after Labor Day!

When it comes to the young professional faces at KCRG, I've heard Beth Malicki recommended a lot of them from the time they worked together at KOMU. She knows her talent and would make an excellent news director. By the way, Charlottesville, VA is another market that seems to have gotten a lot of recent KOMU graduates, though, from reviewing the websites there, it looks like several of them may have moved on.
