KCSN... What's Going On There?

Don Barrett reported on some possible changes at KCSN a while back, anyone know what's going on there? Will there be a format change?

It just came through the pipeline that PD Martin Perlich has resigned. The GM says Martin "retired" but I don't buy it.

Could a format change be next? Hope it stays local. I'd hate to see it become another NPR or Minnesota affiliate.

Agreed. Making KPCC an NPR outlet was a complete waste. AirTalk was a great local drive-time show now relegated to mid-days, and they had some great music programs on there. I particularly liked the oom-pah German music on Sunday mornings. Actually, I didn't really like it that much, but it was nice to know it was there for someone. Where do lovers of German oom-pah music go now? There isn't even a German oom-pah station on XM!

I think Deirdre O Donoghue had a show on there too, right before they went all-talk.

I digress. They should keep KCSN as a neat eclectic music station. We don't need three stations next to each other on the dial giving us the updates from Lake Woebegon.

Maybe it will be added to Saul Levine's growing empire. It would be a logical home for his former KMZT format, adding that music library to what KCSN already has. He seems to be doing pretty good with KKJZ. Better than turning it over to out of towners.

I discovered KCSN about 2 years ago whilst trying to tune my boombox into KKJZ. I like much of their eclectic Sunday programming, but never understood how you could mix classical and hillbilly even under the rubric Arts and Roots Radio. According to LA Observed, their numbers were getting so small they were losing government funding.

Full time, high quality classical? That sounds like a good idea, and is traditional for college NPR-type stations, but we seem to be finding with KUSC that they are able to satisfy all the demand in LA for classical programming by themselves. And KCSN has signal issues outside the Valley.

CSUN is where I went to college. We need to keep this radio station local and electic.
