KCTC going talk

What, you haven't heard? Decision was announced Monday, leakage slowly seeping out through the week.

Music oldies/nostalgia will be gone by November 1st. (Cue the old schoolers wishing for things the way they used to be.)

They've picked up Air America and want to go local with talk radio (not hot talk), presumably to take on KSTE but with a competing political slant. Guess that means no listeners from Roseville or El Dorado Hills. Apparently, they feel they can do a better job with AA than Talk City 1240, but that's not saying much since that shop is run so poorly that hiring Mike Brown to manage it would be an improvement.

Worth noting: Armstrong & Getty have a year left on their deal. Ken Kohl would love to have them at his new hot talker in SF --he hired them at KSTE, nurtured them, feels like he's vested in them. And he knows all the contract windows and loopholes (there are a couple before the year is up). Would that surprise anyone? Despite KSTE's current ratings success (and greater coverage area), that could bode well for Entercom and change things considerably for the CC cluster, which is already suffering erosion on a disarrayed KFBK. If they go, maybe they'll sign off with Tony Bennett.

Interesting, very interesting.

KSAC/1240's website notes that new programs are coming in October, and listeners report hearing promos for Jones Radio's Ed Schultz and Stephanie Miller. It sounds like KSAC is staying with libtalk, but without AAR. With Miller 6-9 AM and Schultz 12-3, they'll only have to fill middays and afternoon drive, the latter likely to be with local talker Christine Craft moving up to 3 PM...she's now listed as being on 4-6 PM.

This has been coming for a while now. Up until now it wasn't known who the new Air America Radio affiliate for Sacramento was going to be. Air America Radio didn't renew with KSAC from what I have heard. Sacramento is better off with an Air America Radio affiliate with better management, sales and a stronger signal. Entercom will have the resources, experience and class that's lacking at Diamond. It would be great if Entercom would steal Christine Craft away too!

Hmm. :D

BTW, I hear that KSAC is also promoting Thom Hartmann - ironically, now syndicated separately from the main network by AAR - in the 9-noon slot.

Let's count: KFBK, KSTE, KHTK, KTKZ-AM/FM, KFIA, KQED-FM, KSAC, KCTC, KTRB-860 KGO, KSFO,
KNCO, KXPR & KHWD, KRXQ, KSEG, 16 stations with talk in the morning and 11 the rest of the day! Looks like KNCI-105.1 is on it's way to the number one spot in Sacramento. I see a lot of overkill going on, how can these stations make any real money with so many stations in the format? Might Entercom be willing to put Lykis back on the air in Sacramento? Looks like a real horse race to me! May the best shows win, and may all the old timers get satellite radio.

Uh, Allison, I pray not.

Sorry, a bit off topic, but I'm gonna take this little prompt to speak some opinion.

Please help us! If you're saying KNCI isn't talk in the mornings, you may be partially right(no not really), but it is hardly music! Bleh, take the 50k stick and give it to KKCY or KATM, ANYTHING would be better than the 30-40 minutes of commercials and lame imaging (antiquated musical sweepers, the Sac Kings plugs last year with Mike Bibby saying "Pat and Tom paid me to make this liner"...etc)

Sorry, I guess I came from a land where there were only a few country stations, but their playlists included more than 60 songs and less than 25-30 minutes of spots an hour. For such the hick I am (read: drive an F-250, own a horse, etc) it is quite a disappointment.

Rick Stewart (FM version), although I wished and became excited that you'd flip to Country, BOSS rocks. And plays music in the morning... Keep up the good work.

Sorry, just need to vent every so often....(Really apologize for the exaggeration, but you get my point!)

There's my $.015.
