KCVR 1570 Lodi Downgrade

I noticed 1570 KCVR (Punjabi American Media, LLC) was recently granted a daytime-power downgrade from 5kw directional (three towers) to 1 kw non-directional (one tower). The nighttime power remains at 500 watts off the three towers.

So is KCVR preparing for a permanent downgrade to non-directional 24x7? Is this some other strategy present to relax an adjacent channel in California or perhaps even tackle the "short spacing" with co-channel KTGE in Salinas? Any guesses would be welcomed.

I was Chief Engineer of KCVR AM for decades before Entravision sold it. The DA was always wandering due to wildly varying ground moisture levels caused by the landowner flooding the ground to grow whatever it is her goats eat. I had to adjust the DA almost monthly to keep it in spec. My guess is they don't want to put that much effort into it. Either that or they want to cover to the south better. The daytime DA shoots due north toward Sacramento. Coverage in downtown Stockton, Manteca, etc. was horrible. Decent daytime signal in Sacramento though.

ive heard it up here on its night pattern once

Punjabi Media still has 1470 in Sacramento, right? So that coverage in Sactown is redundant. I can see the above factors coming together to make the change totally desirable.

KCVR made it to alaska tonight somewhat well in brief spurts.

1570 is usually XERF here or sometimes KTGE

A year or so back 950 am KAHI Auburn had a transmitter issue and went to 1k ND. It covered Sacramento quite well daytime and night. When the issue was rectified they returned to their original 5k directional configuration, making Sacramento coverage negligible daytime. I always wondered why they didn't downgrade and stay with that coverage.

An STA for non d operation gives you an automatic 25 percent of you DA [power.. but doesnt mean you can actualyl get it permanently and often cant
