KCWX now simalcasting KNVA?

Is KCWX now the same as KNVA as the CW network? I noticed they were Simalcasting when I tuned in but I dont know if they are simalcasting all the time now?

At the least, KCWX and KNVA are sharing The CW in pattern. Other than that, I imagine they still have different schedules during the day (especially since KCWX is owned by Belo and based in San Antonio (never mind that its Fredricksburg COL and transmitter is in the Austin market), while KNVA is owned by LIN and based in Austin).

If you're watching on cable and find KCWX "simulcasting" KNVA full-time, maybe LIN ordered the cable system to replace or black out KCWX.

I THOUGHT KCWX WAS OWNED BY CORRIDOR TELEVISION AND CONTROLLED BY BELO AND KNVA WAS OWNED BY 54 INC. CONTROLLED BY LIN.

Re: KCWX now simalcasting KNVA? UPDATE...

Since they switched to the CW network, looks like they blocked out KCWX on my direct tv, did they also block it out on Time warnner?

You are correct about KCWX but don't know anything abou KNVA.

I think 54 is owned by Lin.

i checked the fcc sitie and the only thing i found was 54 broadcasting, so i don't really know anymore. i thought along time ago it was owned by a different company or maybe it is.

Let me try to clear this up: KNVA and KCWX are both run under LMAs. Lin runs, but does not own, KNVA. The station is housed at the KXAN studios on MLK Blvd. in Austin. 54 Inc., which is partly owned by KEYE anchor Ron Oliveira, has always owned KNVA. Belo runs, but does not own, KBEJ. The station is housed at the KENS studios on Fredericksburg Road in San Antonio. Corridor Television as always owned KCWX, which IS NOT simulcasting KNVA. It may look that way because they are both now CW affiliates and air the same network programming from 3-5p and 7-9p. The rest of the day they have separate programming. KNVA has lots of talk shows and syndicated sitcoms as well as My Network shows from 9-11p. KCWX has a few syndicated court shows and some older syndicated programming. Speculation in Austin is that KCWX will soon disappear from Time Warner cable since there's no need for 2 CW affiliates.

The main reason KCWX is still on cable in Austin, in my opinion, is probably the "must-carry" rule, with the station licensed in Fredericksburg (in the Austin market), and its transmitter very close to market lines (near the town of Albert).

That would make sense, but that's the argument KCWX (then KBEJ) used and failed with when it originally tried to get on Time Warner's Austin system. They can only use must-carry in one market ... and they chose San Antonio, because it's a bigger city with more ad potential. The only way it ended up on the Austin system is because Belo struck a financial deal with Time Warner, turning over some airtime for ads. The howls of indignation from Star Trek fans who had no Austin outlet to watch their show also played a small role.
