KD TIES DVE FOR #1

Phase 1 trends have DVE down, and KD has basically backed into a tie for first. 104.7 is up to #3. Political talk and the PA primary may have driven some of the numbers.

The X was DOWN although this period ended in Apriil, just as the playoffs were starting.

Too soon to tell on 92.9.

The B is going nowhere fast. Maybe they should cut the overhead and put a really soft AC on 93.7, like the Dove in Tampa (and put Gary and Beth in AM drive). It would prevent DVE from being #1 12+ and push JAS over the edge. Wouldn't make a ton of money but wouldn't cost much either.

I also withdraw my previous comments that WAMO AM's numbers were wrong... I forgot that they run Steve Harvey in the morning; I'd guess those numbers are pretty much all him.

I agree with you political talk is driving these ratings. I would have to think having a live show at night instead of Neil Bortz helps, and perhaps Marty and Kevin Miller are becoming established as well.

And what does it say that WPTT can't pick up any ratings during that time?

Part- as for your discussion of B-94, their ratings are steadily improving. While I realize it is not rapid growth, why do you think they'd pull the plug on it?

As for The X, the ratings are still up from the Fall. But perhaps a playlist tweak is in order there as well.

I noticed WDVE is down as well.

So, for the ONE MILLIONTH TIME!!!!!

Please- tweak the playlist. My feelings are well known.

We luv ya, WDVE. We really do!

But I'd like to hear a few more songs from The House of Hair or at the very least a few more up tempo.

Hey- it's summer!

Most likely this was DVE listeners spending more time with talk radio, as opposed to any real dissatisfaction with what they're playing. And if anything those people went to 104.7, not KD. DVE was down more than KD was up.

The B is only gaining a couple of tenths each book and it doesn't seem that Kiss or WAMO are taking any hits at all. If the B was relevant they'd be within a point of Kiss by now. In fact, if they were taking any listeners away they would have just about caught them.

All depends on how the 18-34s look (and I bet that gap is wider than the 12+). I don't listen enough to know how they're doing spot-wise. Revenue will be the deciding factor. If it isn't happening by fall I bet we see something that's ultra-low cost.

Considering the Pittsburgh demos and the success of music on AM at 1320, I think a WDUV type station might really work in Pittsburgh. I'm not sure who should do it, but I think 100.7 or 92.9 would be ideal. Maybe one of the Frog's?

IBOC buzz.....or Neil Young.......??

I know, tough choice for me as well.

92.9 just went in the opposite direction. The Frogs are all rimshots except for 98.3, so if you flip it you kill all of them.

I say the B. It's very likely the lowest-revenue FM in the market at the moment.

As much as I think the B's current 2.5 12+ share is still pathetic as a station with a HERITAGE name in a HERITAGE-loving market like the 'Burgh, the damn thing still needs time! To CBS: don't be so quick to make knee-jerk reactions so damn quickly like you did with the former K-Rock. For once, give a station some time to grow on people. What a novel concept!!

With all the grey-hairs around here, a soft AC would do great here. Maybe whenever Steel City gets the urge to no longer put on only a robot station in a major market, they will give it a try. Just maybe.

I think the biggest shock this book is 104.7. Wow. I thought with our pathetic Buccos on now the ratings would actually DROP. Congrats to them. Has that "cursed" frequency ever got third place 12+??

As bad as the Pirates have been through the years, I have often heard baseball in general does very well on the radio- both revenue and ratings.

The Pirates used to do 20-shares at night on KD. In fact, despite the low attendance at 3 Rivers, the radio numbers were one of the factors that led MLB to push to keep the team here, because they knew it meant there was interest in the team.

CC people are much happier with the cash and numbers they are seeing from Pirate broadcasts this season and are still sort of amazed at the number of calls/e-mails they don't get about pre-empting regular programs for day games. Apparently the people that really want to find Rush, et al can find him and don't take as many numbers with them as feared. CC would do this deal again in a second.

This should be B's book. Summer is the time CHR shines. Now, they don't help themselves by keeping star around in its current form. Get rid of Star and may be put the WDUV esk format on air there. Thoughts?

Zero chance of that happening. Format change would cost $$ and they don't want to spend any in Pittsburgh right now. They aren't even spending money on things that despirately need to be done.

Star will never go anywhere. The 12+ numbers have never told the story there, their numbers are ALL 35-54 females ... meaning that virtually everyone listening is in the target demo they are selling (no waste, as the sale types like to say).
