KDAY Already Flipped?

It appears KDAY Jumped the gun on it's flip to Urban AC.

Was it an Sudden Change? Or has it is been a transition(that's still in progress)? I been streaming for a bit it seems like it's Urban AC with a Hip hop track or 2 still in the playlist.

KDAY "Tweaked" the format on the station as of this morning.
Their sister station KWIE flipped formats today as well.

The way the new 93.5 the beat will go down as follows

Steve Harvey 6-10am tape delayed
Wendy Williams 10am-1pm 11am -1pm live
Monique 1-4pm live Will miss the 1st hr since Wendy Williams will still be on at noon
Michael Baidsen 4-8pm tape delayed
Theo 8pm-12am live
Keith Sweet 12am-5am tape delayed.

The music they play right now is cool but I would be surprised if 93.5 the beat lasted longer than a year.

Already have 2 Urban A/C stations. From what i understand 93.5 the beat signal wont be any stronger that that of Kjlh. 93.5 will be the new V-100, History.

Yeah pretty much.

All these show can be heard online. At least we heard live radio when v-100 existed. Even Micheal Baidsen's show was live. I can't see this working.

It will work because:
A-No one else is doing it quite like this
B-The general radio audience does not know or care about syndicated product vs. local. They will listen or not depending on whether they like it.

Sometimes radio insiders need to see things from the perspective of the casual cume audience out there

The real issue is whether there are enough people in LA that would like this type of format, irrespective of where it comes from.

I do agree that the studio location does not matter. Do folks in Fargo care that Jay Leno is in Burbank? Or that Desparate Housewives was not filmed in Moorhead?

It will not work

I bet 93.5 the beat go under in a year tops.

They tried make the beat into an r&b station already, didnt work then and wont work now.

And since all of these shows can be heard online why have them hear of all places when half of them won't even be live. I can see 1 show like a Steve Harvey working. But lets be real even his show is not the same since he's catering to more than just the L.A. audience. Most of these shows they are bring to the beat are talk shows, And not live to top it off. Big Boy on Power 106 show is syndicated now also, but he's still out here which means Power 106 is getting a live show. So the syndicate fact may not matter but having a live show will. Thats the downfault of having a syndicate show in the West Coast. Also i dont see the beat outdoing Hot 92.3 or 102.3 KJLH. Dont need another Urban A/C satation. In a number 2 market. L.A. should have at least 1 Urban station. Power 106 is not Urban, It R/C. Different format. The only way people outhere will be able to listen to these shows live is on the internet.

Yes, Big Boy is now syndicated. But guess what? He's now on East Coast stations. Or some of the stations are on the eastern time zone which means that he actually starts his show around 3am pst. So by the time you hear his program, it's
like a repeat. It's not live here on the West Coast.

I live in the Inland Empire and don't really listen to the radio a lot but could immediately tell something changed at 93.5. I wanted to know what happened and came across this forum. Now that the old KDAY is no more and the IE gets KWIE 93.5 "The Flow" on a separte signal I don't quite get the playlist of eclectic songs. Tonight I heard Mary J. Blige "Sweet Thing" and then right after INXS "I Need You Tonight". I don't get it. I agree with what has been stated. This can't last.

In July, KHHT was #17 25-54, while KDAY was #34 and KJLH #40. There is BARELY room for one Urban AC in this town, certainly not 3.

Magic has raped the history of both KDAY and The Beat. They don't have a clue as to what the real meaning of those stations was to the community and why they worked in their time. What they are going to try on KDAY is what led to the ending of 100.3 The Beat. Magic makes Radio One look like a brilliant company.

Urban won't work in L.A. again, either. The black population is not growing jn Los Angeles. It's been pushed out by illegal aliens from Mexico and Central America, primarily. If you haven't noticed, Compton is now majority Latino not black even if those who are registered to vote (legally) are still majority black. Look where the Los Angeles black population has been migrating to, Moreno Valley, Riverside, San Bernardino, Palmdale and the like. They continue to leave South Central.

Hot won't even be able to survive in the long run. Stevie should have the sole (soul) urban station in Los Angeles.

NOTE: Re: Big Boy's Neighborhood Airtimes: according to ABC Radio Networks Syndication link below, the show is aired live to ALL time zones, meaning that he does (in essence) a seven hour radio show from 3AM-10AM Pacific time/6AM-1PM Eastern time. (It's heard here in New York on WQHT-FM-97.1 "Hot 97" from 7AM-10AM Eastern time.) HOWEVER: I'm sure there are many parts & "bits" of the early (East Coast) portion of the show (of a generic nature) which are replayed during the later (West Coast) portion of the show.

I agree, Tragic has no clue, KDAY started out as a local station but over the past two years has eroded into what it is today. Shows tape delayed and no local content. Cume is lowest it has ever been and the BEAT is gone!

I do agree with KJLH 102.3 should be urban A/C station. What's sad is i live in L.A. County and i cant even get 93.5 the beat anymore. I get 93.5 the flow. So much for the strength being stornger than KJLH not a good sign.

You would think that they would have kept both 93.5's in tack with many Blacks moving out to the I.E.

Another sign that the beat is dead.

Yes KWIE 93.5 "The Flo" has taken over if you are in the Inland Empire or I guess as previous poster just mentioned Orange County (or certain parts anyway). No more Steve Harvey. No more Michael Basiden. Not that I was a regular listener but I liked listening when I could and feel bad for those that listened daily. What a loss!! People are going to miss these syndicated shows! Also no radio personalities period! I await the demise of this station. Bring back Steve in the morning and Michael in the afternoons!

Actually, Theo's show is taped or preproduced also. So 100% of KDAY or The Beat, or whatever they call themselves daily programming is canned or provided by the bird.

The "Flo", the station you can "Always" "Depend" on...Air talent idea: Kimberly Clark in AM Drive...are they "streaming" yet?
