Hey, look at the bright side...free satellite radio.

the syndicated shows have to pay to be on kday or any other major market station. its an inexpensive way to run an operation.

What da hell? LA with no Urban station? 100.3 THE BEAT -vs- POWER 106 was the best and now 3 Urban AC and 1 Rhythmic. You mean to tell me nobody except POWER 106 can sell Hip-Hop in market#2?

Urban radio in LA has been grotesquely mismanaged since Steve Harvey's show was destroyed thanks to syndication; he was repeatedly #1 in morning drive among English-language stations @ KKBT.

Given the exodus of blacks from LA over the past decade, there's less of them to cater to.

Someone will fill the Void. Power 106 might move back urban. Hot97 in NYC did that a few weeks ago.

I'm surprised David hasnt chimed in with the numbers of hispanics and black populations in the market? I would'nt call it an exodus, but one demographic growing more rapidly than others, way more rapidly!

the syndicators pay a lot to be in l.a. its the richest radio market in the country, number one for revenue. as for no urban radio station.a population shift has been underway in the southern california area for years with hispanics and asians out numbering african americans and soon whites.

Some syndicators will pay clearance fees for shows that have a more idfficult ime being picked up. But the big syndicated shows don't pay network compensation, particularly morning shows.

Hispanics are 42% of the market. Asinas are 12% Blacks are 8%. There are about 10% first generation Eastern Europeans, Persians and Arab. So non-Hispanic whites are fewer in nunber than Hispanics (most of whom are, also, white).

Here in the Meridian, MS area they have Steve Harvey on a rhythmic. The show is great but it doesn't fit on a rhythmic IMHO. You'll love Mike Baisden if you haven't experienced him before. He's real and tells it like it is. I'm not exactly his "target demographic" (read: I'm a white guy) but I really enjoy listening to the show because of his honesty and passion.

Does the Rhythmic Add some of it's own music to the show or does the station play all the Urban AC songs that the Steve Harvey Show Plays?

Non Hispanic whites who are not first generation immigrants are about 30% of the market now. Whites overall are about 60% of the market, as most Hispanics are counted as white on the Census. Asians are, at 12%, are nowhere near the white total population.

Unfortunately, as long as they have clout in pleasing the 18-34 crowd and the Hispanic community, don't count on KPWR going full-blown Urban anytime in the near future. The only thing Power 106 is more focused on these days is going after KIIS and KXOL.

Haven't seen any coments on the end of the simulcast.... Seems like more people liked KDAY in Riverside than in LA... 93.5 "The Flow"???... I can't wait to hear Bobby Brown's "My Perogative" next to "Don't stop believin'" by Journey. Look out KGGI! ;D HAHAHA!

They play their own music during the local breaks but not much they can do when they play a track during the show segments. PD just grins and bears it. I was APD of that station for a while (in addition to being the night jock and MD on the cluster's CHR/Pop... but that's another story) and it gave us some fits... but, we made it work. Still sounds pretty tight.
