A 'New' Day In L.A. As KDAY Goes Urban

Styles Media CHR/Rhythmic simulcast KDAI & KDAY/Los Angeles has flipped to Urban. The stations have been increasingly playing more gold and recurrent R&B titles in recent weeks. Now on board as a consultant for "93.5 KDAY" is veteran Urban programmer Steve Hegwood.

Hegwood is currently is the principal owner of On Top Communications, which owns Urban stations in several markets. He will work with KDAY PD Anthony Acampora in refocusing the station to target the 18-34 African-American audience.

Billboard report

PD Anthony Acampora exits Styles Media R&B/hip-hop KDAY (93.5) Los Angeles. The station recently refocused its R&B/hip-hop format, putting it in direct competition with both Radio One's R&B/hip-hop KKBT(100.3 the Beat) and Emmis rhythmic top 40 KPWR (Power106).

Meanwhile, Steve Hegwood joins KDAY's board as R&B/hip-hop consultant. Hegwood is the principal owner of On Top Communications and will work to attract the 18-34 demographic.
