KDAY PLAYING CURRENTS-- AGAIN

I flipped on KDAY today, and over the course of the day, I heard Tyga "Faded", E40 "Function" and Ca$h Out "Cashin' Out" sprinkled in amongst the classic hip hop tracks. I assume this means KDAY has again tweaked to include currents, at least one an hour.

It also sounds like their new slogan is "Where Hip Hop Started", which gives them the avenue to play hip hop from any era.

With the return of KXOL to a more English language based rhythmic format, many of these current rhythmic hits can now be heard on five stations (KPWR, KDAY, KXOL, KIIS and KAMP).

I noticed that too. On top of that they're playing Kanye West "Mercy", Meek Mill "I'm a Boss", Lil' Wayne "She Will". They're new slogan represents that KDAY opened the door for hip hop shine in Los Angeles. I hope this is a sign of us getting a true hip hop station again. We're going to see how Power will respond to KDAY's minor tweak in the next few months.

On the other hand, and just down the dial, I heard "Hotel California" on Hot 92.3 on the Art Laboe show at about 10:00 pm a few nights ago. Art said that the song was actually a dedication from someone to his "Homies in LA". I was surprised - I didn't know Art strayed so far out of format for an R&B oldies show, or that the song is one that the "Homies in LA" would be interested in. Are there any other similar instances of this?

Art does stray from time to time. I have heard him play other Eagles songs before. He even played Patsy Cline's "Crazy"!

The current PD is doing a good job at KDAY. You gotta keep it fresh and give the station new life its a slow process. Bringing a new morning show, mixes and some old faces back is the perfect formula. KNRJ in Pheniox AZ is doing the same thing mixing the old with a few currents a hour.

Well it didn't last long because I haven't heard any currents lately.
Well I have but the classic hip hop tracks seem to outweigh the current hip hop hits though, I hope to God that they don't mess it up like they did back in 2004. I heard Dr. Dre "Kush", LoveRance "Up", Young Jezzy "Leave You Alone" today. KDAY sounds ok at the moment. It's a work in progress so stay tuned… :).

I'm not sure if KDAY is doing exactly the same as KNRJ, but KNRJ plays their currents mostly at night (after 7PM). More classisc hiphop is played during the day, with a current here and there.
