i heard someone on this board say that the KDAY format "would be gone in a week" - the thread in particular was last week. i was wondering if this is still true? if so, any idea on what the next format could be?

how long do you (or anybody) think(s) before a format change?

A few days to a couple of weeks. One rumor is that it will return in Spanish as an affiliate of the Preciosa network.

Of course, LA badly needs another Spanish language station right when hundreds of thousands of immigrants are returning home due to the recession, and radio billing is off 20% to 30% around the market.

oh man, i was hoping that KDAY would transform into an Indie 103.1 style format, especially with the previous connections Indie had with Magic Broadcasting...what do you think about that?

KDAY should go Korean

KDAY should go Korean. The Korean market is now being served by two AMs and an SCA. A Korean FM would capture at least half the market. KDAY's transmitter location in the Baldwin Hills puts a smokin' signal into Koreatown.

Of course, this makes too much sense for them to actually DO-after all, they can be the 21st or so Spanish station in the market-with a third tier signal to boot.

or...someone could call Roy Laughlin, the behind the curtain KDAY/Magic Puppetmaster...I bet he knows what's about to happen, unless he's too busy plotting his 2 Gold Coast/Rincon "move ins"...

I thought Roy was outta'dere when he went for his cameo shot appearance at CBS.

he is gone ...but if I know Roy, he's been helping, coaching, consulting the GM he put in place before he left...much the same as he did at Indie with the former GM there...who also happened to be one of his sales managers at CC. Maybe he has a small ownership stake in Magic. Oh it's a tangled web he weaves. In addition to influencing loyal former employees his current linkedin.com bio includes significant ties to the company his brother runs, GAP, and his "partnership" with Rincon/Gold Coast. Truth be told I bet Roy fancies himself as the Godfather of LA radio. And yeah, and in his spare time, he's Mr. Ellen K.
