KDAY's format Urban Adult Hits

As much as its pain me to say, because they are playing the music of my childhood and young adult life, I think 'rhythmic oldies' is the most appropriate label for their format.

They're essentially a refresh of the jammin' oldies formats that started popping up everywhere 10 years ago. Instead of the disco/funk/R&B, etc.- they're playing more 90s rhythmic music. The concept is essentially the same, though.

Remember: format names mean nothing to audiences - it's just radio insider jargon and I'd bet than people still tell their friends they listen to the "oldies" or "old school" station.

Based on what I've heard from friends, many of whom have 93.5 preset in their car (we are of that age), no one refers to it as 'rhythmic oldies' or 'classic urban contemporary' or 'back in the day' or 'old school'. I've heard friends say they play '90s hip hop' and 'they sound like Power 106 in the 90s'.

Of course this is just my group of friends, but as you pointed out, format names are only for those of us who are interested in radio.

Speaking of Rhythmic Oldies, KDAY is in direct competition with KHHT a gold leaning rhythmic AC and KJLH an Urban Contemporary/Urban AC.
