KDFW-FOX 4 Dallas New Shiny Set

Ahh, prepare the Windex for all the new shiny plasma screens all over KDFW-Fox 4's new news set for both the ratings-grabber "Good Day" as well as the afternoon and evening local bonanzas. Word on the street is that Fox corporate is homogenizing all its O&Os so be prepared to see similar sets in all the top 10 markets. It did look all bright and "shiny" this morning and maybe a little too fancy for FOX 4 but time will tell. ;D

Looks ALOT better. The old Good Day set really needed work. Looks more "professional"

I don't like it. Looks too much like Fox News Channel (and I absolutely abhor that channel, but not because of any political leanings...more because they're into fear- and gossip-mongering). I don't like simple sets, either, but I think too much glitz distracts from the on-air product (which is a valid strategy if your on-air product sucks).

In fact, none of the news sets in D/FW do anything for me. KXAS is too -- I don't know -- throwback, somehow. WFAA is waaaaay too bright and glitzy, and KTVT has too much brick. Ditto for KTXA's new set.

I say put 'em in the newsroom and make 'em do the news! Simple and clean is so much better.

Just be glad it's not KCBD TV 11 in Lubbock. They do a terrific news cast, but a Horrific set! It looks like one of those early 90's sets, excpet very poorley conceved, disorganized and all out of proportaion, and completely boxy.

Then you have the other extreme in places like Dallas, with news sets so well built, they look like the news is comming fom a Hotel Lobby. I agree, get rid of all the boring news music and put them in the newsroom where they belong!

I like what Ed Ansin does in Boston and Miami, where "news is the star."
