KDFW HD Newscasts when?

So now that I finally have my HD set:), I don't like to watch Ch 4 news anymore.....it's just to fuzzy :mad:. Anyone know when they are joining the other stations to HD? ???
 
Ed Bark's blog has asked the same question. Fox essentially says "sometime." Others have heard that there's long range planning for such a thing, but no dates have been set to switch.

What you should know is that Fox owns 23 Fox affiliates, although it is now selling 8 of them. Of the 23 Fox affiliates that Fox owns only one is doing news in HD: WEWS in Cleveland. That station is one of the 8 that's being sold.

My guess is that Fox 4 will flip the switch on HD news around the time of the big digital transfer day on Feb. 17, 2009.
 
The local Fox cluster, as with others, is quite frankly...cheap. Everything is done bargain basement (production, reporting (see Rebecca Aguilar,Becky "Barking Dog" Oliver), presentation), it feels like im watching a middle-lower market newscast when I do tune in. I compare Fox to that crazy guy down the block, who you have to call the cops on to mow his 4' high lawn and remove the junk car parts from his yard, because there just cheap and lazy.

Just to be certain it's understood, the transition in 2009 does not require stations to program in HD. They are only required to switch to digital - they may use standard definition digital if they wish.

The cost of doing news in HD is staggering. Really, there are few if any parts of the station's technical core that don't need upgrade. Many stations are not done with spending money on digital transmitter gear either - for example, WFAA and KTVT which are changing DTV channels on Transition Day.
 
The next 13 months is going to be an interesting time in US Broadcasting, im glad I can sit and watch it happen.

Oh, believe me, I understand that the 2009 date does not mandate HDTV. It drives me batty when I see people say that. Sorry if I was misunderstood!
I'm just saying that with all the heavy hype and promotion that will go along with the transition day, it seems to me that it would be an opportune time for Fox 4 to flip the switch on HD news.
 
Maybe with the numbers they're pulling in the mornings, that's why the wait.

Besides, do we really need to see just HOW MANY coats of makeup Heather Hays applies anyway? ;D

Aw shucks. I could have said Megan Henderson and her layers of hairspray, but she's waaaaaaaaaay too smoking for me to slam like that. Heather was all I had with that quip. :D

The actual station in question in Cleveland is WJW Channel 8. WEWS (Channel 5) is actually the ABC affiliate owned by Scripps. With WJW being sold by Fox, the only O&O that is broadcasting news in HD is their Philadelphia station, WTXF.

The quality of their broadcast is displeasing to the eye. KDFW FOX 4 always has the greenish tint in the colors. The other DFW channels look great as far as color levels and tint. It must be the type of equipment FOX 4 uses. anyone ever notice ??

Yeah it must be the eyes, consider calling Dr.John Wilkes Booth for his radcial eye surgery procedure. you will be green with envy on what he can do.
 
I switched to FOX Chicago and the green went away. thanks:)

You are correct about Cleveland. My apologies. I did read that the Fox O&O in Detroit (WJBK) just switched to HD news this past week. Perhaps this is a sign that Fox is started to switch all of their stations. ??
