KDFW wasting talent

Just noticed that Richard Ray hosts something called "Lone Star Adventures". Isn't this nothing more than a ripoff of the former "Jack Brown's Texas"? Or maybe "4 Country Reporter"? And what a waste of talent. Not that Ray is God's gift to reporting, but his serious tone and his history with covering the courthouse beat and doing investigative pieces...what's he doing this fluff for now? That's a great place to put someone out to pasture. At least Jack Brown could be humorous and tongue-in-cheek, but Ray's too all-business to be a "fun" guy for this type of duty.

Robot Ray (as I call em) is way too serious too be doing this kinda work. I would love to see a "On The Front Porch" type of segment for the local newscast in this market.

RR's been doing this segment for many years. It airs mainly on weekends, and he's been all over the state.

Rich created the Lone Star Adventures reports and it's something he really enjoys doing. Sorry it doesn't meet with your approval.

Good points from everyone. And indicative of the arrogance from management people that THEY know best, in their "somebody do something even if it's wrong" mentality. Top down running of companies has ruined uncountable businesses. Everything has to be micromanaged by the suits and they are usually least capable of running the day-in, day-out affairs of an organization.

Richard Ray created the Lone Star Adventure series himself. He and his wife (an EP at Fox 4) have traveled a lot and thought it would be good to do a series about interesting places in and near Texas. That's not an arrogent top down mangement decision, that's bottom-up enterprise reporting.

Furthermore, Richard Ray still does a lot of important reporting for the station besides LSA. He went to Iraq in 2003. Unfortunately, he was assigned to a unit from Fort Hood that was supposed to enter the country from the north. When that didn't happen, he had to scramble to go south. His reports were good and informative.

He also went to the Tsunami zone a few months back when a group from Texas went there.

He won an emmy recently for an investigative report on a justice of the peace who wasn't doing his job.

You can say a lot of things about Richard Ray, but he is not a wasted talent.

I wasn't aware of the rest of the story. Thanks for the enlightenment, and I'm GLAD that they're not wasting him. I don't watch Ch 4 much, and just noticed the plug for his Lone Star Adventures on their website...and thought that's all they had him doing these days. I saw Ch 4 do the same thing (I thought) to Jack Brown many years ago...an excellent investigative reporter for 22 years at Ch 5, then relegated to cute-sie rural reporter thereafter for Ch 4.
