sorry to see The Edge cut Jagger yet again. i bet you money he gets a job at KXT once his non-compete clause expires, or IheartMedia moves him to a different station either in this market or in another market.
 
why do you guys want "The Edge" Gone?

oh wait, Rock isn't Rock anymore, that's right. The Edge's music selection tends to go for the teens and 20somethings, while the Eagle tends to lean older but not too old while Lonestar 92.5 goes for the way too old rock fans who don't want to hear what's on the Egde and Eagle.

plus DFW needs an Rock station not owned by iHeartRadio too. too bad Cumulus won't flip 99.5 or 96.3 to make way for a Rock station since this is still the heart of Country music land and they pretty much have a monopoly on Country like IHeart has the Monopoly on Rock.

also, the youth really don't listen to music on the radio anymore.

i confess the only time i listen to the radio these days is Russ Martin on 97.1 The Eagle (when he's not on best of due to his chronic allergies issues) and WBAP for severe weather coverage and maybe KETR in Commerce (since i live in Hunt County and they cover Hunt County well) for their severe weather coverage too. and i'm only 30 so i'm pretty much on the old side of the "Internet generation".

so what would happen to the music played on The Edge when The Edge does eventually flip, i can see the hard new rock move to the Eagle (forcing all classic rock songs played on The Eagle to be moved to Lone Star 92.5), the pop friendly alt rock music move to 106.1 Kiss FM and 102.9 Now, Cumulus' Hot 93.3 and even be forced to be played on CBS Radio's 103.7 KVIL under their current format. and the niche rock move over to 91.7 KXT which is owned by KERA.

so do you all want The Edge to flip and change to a different kind of Rock station to compete against KXT or do you want it to become a different format that isn't in this market or a format that is monopolized in this market by Cumulus.
 
The problem with the Edge is that it's not the direction of alternative is today. It's the fact that they play less of today's alternative and more of the same old 90's/2000's rock. And any of today's alternative, you can just hear it on Kiss and Now. As someone mentioned here, the Edge is sandwiched between the rock side and pop side of the iHeart building. You got your RHCP, Foos, and Green Day that Eagle plays, and you got your "Royals" by Lorde, "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons, and "Ho Hey" by the Lumineers along with any 2000s rock that you can hear on Now. So yeah, the Edge's playlist leans towards the teens/20s which makes them sound more CHR than alternative. Compare any other alternative station in the nation to the Edge and you'll hear a major difference. If Edge were to focus on indie bands just like KXT and less on the pop alternative that make them sound like Kiss FM #3 (Now 102.9 is Kiss FM #2 to me), their playlist would sound much different than their sister stations.

And yes, a rock station not owned by iHeart would be very nice in this market. Also that's the problem with this market. You got all your rock with iHeart (Edge, Eagle, Lonestar), two CHRs with iHeart (Kiss, Now), country with Cumulus (KSCS, Wolf), sports with Cumulus (Ticket, ESPN through an LMA), and oldies with CBS (KLUV, Jack). Hardly any competition in the market except the CHR wars with Kiss, Now, KVIL, Hot, and to an extent Beat and probably K104.

102.1 could be a commercial AAA station (like KBCO in Denver) if they wanted to or a full-power classic country station. But only time could tell. I highly doubt the Edge will ever go away but it is still sad to see such a heritage station that was once a glorious station in its days on 94.5 be completely trashed and ruined by then-Clear Channel/now iHeart.

yeah, and The Edge is double Heritage in this market with the Edge Branding's storied history dating back to it's early days at 94.5 and the fact that 102.1 is a Heritage via proxy due to it's history of Rock radio as Q102 on 102.1 from 1978-1998. with the exception of of Aug 31, 1998-November 9, 2000 when it was Magic 102.1, 102.1 has been known as a rock station in some form with Q102 and 102.1 The Edge.
 
102.1 has been known as a rock station since the early 70s when it became KFWD.
Granted now it seems they play mostly indie pop.

Be careful with that. There are maybe five alternative formats in the state of Texas. Please, let us keep the little bit of coverage we have.

Think of all the markets where there are no alt-rock stations:

San Antonio (103-3 The App doesn't count because you can't even pick it up on Loop 1604).
Bryan/College Station (60k college students and no alt-rock station?)
Waco
Beaumont
The Valley (Q 94-5 is a classic rock station, and should be listed as such)
