KDGE has named Josh Venable as P/D, replacing Vince Richards. I think this is a terrific move on CC part. What do you think?

Here's my question about KDGE...

KDGE, KLNO and KRLD are all in Cedar Hill, transmit 100kw from 485 meter towers.
KLNO and KRLD reach Waco.
KDGE does not reach Waco.

Why does KDGE fade just south of Hillsboro, while the other two reach Waco with hardly any interference?

The spacing is very tight however, which is why KBRQ puts a significant null towards Cedar Hill.

This isn't really a recent development; it dates back to the 1980's. KBRQ is very much short-spaced to both KDGE and KDMX. Under FCC rules the minimum spacing in this case normally would be 65 miles while the actual distance is just 53 miles. What's different about this situation, however, is that KBRQ was "grandfathered short-spaced" to the Cedar Hill stations, so it not only has a directional antenna but also relatively low antenna height (just under 450 feet, very short for a Class C1). The original short spacing began in 1962 when KJIM-FM Fort Worth came on at 102.1 with 2.89kW, next door to Hillsboro's KHBR-FM, which had signed on in 1959 at 102.3 with 3.2kW. A few years later 102.1 (as KFWT) increased to 100kW after Hillsboro had moved to 102.5. It was 1984 when KHBR-FM (by then known as KJNE-FM) would get the big power increase, albeit with a short tower.

I wouldn't expect KBRQ 102.5 to interfere with KDGE 102.1 between Dallas and Waco, being that they are two spots apart. Thanks for the info, jd.
