KDKA picking up Dr. Phil, moving Guiding Light to 10 AM

Add another CBS o&o, and the 11th station, to
run Guiding Light at 10 AM. KDKA/2 Pittsburgh
has picked up Dr. Phil from ABC affiliate WTAE/4
and will air him at 3 PM beginning this fall (source:
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette website). KDKA will use
Dr. Phil to lead into a three-hour news block (Katie
will air at 7).

KDKA had tried to persuade CBS to let it move
Young And The Restless to 4 PM; CBS refused.
Interesting, considering that Y&R airs in three
non-o&o markets (St. Louis, Raleigh, and Louisville)
at 4 and is a potent lead-in to those stations' 5 PM
newscasts. So Guiding Light gets the 10 AM slot;
KDKA becomes the seventh CBS o&o to do this (an
eighth, KOVR, as we all know, pre-empts GL).

If anybody's been keeping score--or cares--have
you noticed that only two stations in the South
show GL at 10, and both are in Florida? Is there
some difference in preference by geography; in
other words, do Southerners prefer GL to General
Hospital, while north of the Mason-Dixon line it's
the opposite?

WCBS 2 New York does the same thing I see. But I don't see why both can't just leave Guiding Light at 3pm. Soaps are surpose to be after 12:30pm anyways right after the News at Noon.

So what other stations show soaps before Noon now? Does any NBC or ABC afflates do this?

Soaps before noon

Most CBS affils in the Central, and Pacific time zones run Young and the Restless at 11am local time, then have a noon newscast. Some Mountain time stations may run Y&R live off the feed at 10am local, while others time shift to 11am. Eastern time zone stations run the alternate 12:30 ET feed of Y&R.
Many (but not all) ABC stations in the central and western U.S. run All My Children at 11am as well, but the numbers are split--there are still many affils that run it at Noon local...depends on where they want their midday news, and the desirability of a head-to-head battle with Y&R.

Yeah, I noticed ABC is big up in the Northeast, with WPVI, WABC etc. As for Y&R at 4, it sounds like an interesting idea, but for anyone who has ever followed daytime history, when the serials have timeslot changes, the writing is on the wall. Just look at Ryan's Hope, Port Charles, Search For Tomorrow etc.
