I live where I can get KDKA during my homeward commute during the winter. The only PA special congressional election spots I hear during my 6:15 to 7:00 drive home are for Ray Ceccone. Where are the Connor Lamb spots? Doesn't KD' have to air them as must carries?
They only have to offer equal access. The candidates have to buy the time. Political advertising gets a break on rates. They get the lowest unit rate charged in the 45 days prior to a primary election and 60 days prior to a general election. If they give free time to one candidate then they have to do the same for the opponent(s).
Yup. Conor Lamb's campaign or the Democratic Committee or some 501 C3 organization supporting him has to PAY for the ads. KDKA does not have to give them away for free.
Coming home tonight I caught the last half of a 501C3 spot for Lamb, followed a few minutes by a Ceccone spot authorized by Ceccone (the only candidate-authorized spot I've heard in that daypart during this campaign).
