How about returning to that format of 40 years ago for the day? You know-play some Nick Drake and good music.

Who the heck is/was Nick Drake and what did he have on the charts in 1971? Never heard of him...

Obviously no one special, couldn't make the 27 club. He died at 26.

Nick's another dead hero, of course. Try River Man or Cello Song for a taste of non-charting (while he was alive), singer-songwriter goodness. Amazing.

That brings me to the other good spirits floating around the old Safeway off Main in Mesa: Bill Compton, Dwight Tindle and Hank Cookenboo. Don't forget them, please.

Neanderpaul, it's been amazing hearing everyone today. Special props to Dennis McBroom and Marty Manning for recalling the halcyon days before Superstars so nicely.

The one regret that I have regarding yesterday, is that we did not video the entire 8 hours.

So many funny things you did not hear...Secrets of the studio I guess.

Beginning right at 10a, Bill Andres set the tone. He brought something missing from so much radio these days; content.

..and he was far from alone.

Universally, each professional showed up prepped. Nobody took their shift lightly. Pages & pages of typed-out material. Notice I didn't say printed out. This was not rip-and-read radio. Call me old here: The new generation of talent should have been there with me to see how much effort it takes to do just two hours of good radio. and it was repeated by half a dozen of the best to have ever done it in the Valley. No cop-out, lazy prep. Everyone took the information that they gathered, and gave it a personal voice. They connected the information, to the listener's reality. Yes, I meant it singularly. Because these pros understand that, although we're in the broadcasting industry, the best radio is intimate. Making that one-on-one connection with the listener. I enjoyed watching (mostly Lynda...sorry Dennis).

Some other alumni I met for the first time last night, asked me why, after 26 years of doing this, and as the Program Director, I would execute the duties of a producer/board-op for 8 hours on a Saturday for a throw-back weekend program? Why wouldn't I assign it to our Production Director? Why wouldn't we pre-record in the studio & pre-package everything so that it sounded smooth & tight?

Because that's not radio. I Love Radio.

What you heard yesterday was fun, compelling, live, radio. For me, it was an education. I got the chance to experience the processes that made Rock radio in Phoenix the cultural tipping-point that it was, and still can be. The stories were engaging. The passion, palpable.

I want to thank Bill Andres, Carol Springer, Mark In The Dark, Lynda Clayton, Dennis McBroom, and Marty Manning for the education, and opportunity to share a mic (if only briefly) with you.

I also want to thank our current weekend staff for their accommodating manner. Shmonty, Dick, and Producer Cliff stepped up to assist in every way asked of them. And were smart enough join with me, and watch, listen & learn. Copious notes were taken...and subsequently "misplaced." Because you can't replicate what our alumni did. It comes with experience.

Yesterday was a great experience for me. Hope you enjoyed & thank you for listening!
