KDKB Becomes 'Everything That Rocks'

After a week of stunting, Sandusky heritage rocker KDKB/Phoenix segues to an “Everything That Rocks” format similar to that of Saga’s WHQG (the Hog)/Milwaukee and Cromwell’s WBUZ (the Buzz Rocks)/Nashville.

"We'll certainly be very different from those stations, based on local appeal," PD Buzz Casey tells R&R. "We will be broader and more eclectic than ever before and cover a lot more ground musically. I guarantee that you will hear some artists on KDKB that have not been traditionally played before on this station. Yes, we will sound very different, but we'll remain true to what people say made KDKB great back in the day."

The station’s jock line-up remains intact, but Steve Stone comes on board as the station’s new imaging voice.

The stunting ended at 9:33AM after REM's "End of the World as We Know It" with a short announcement announcing the everything that rocks slogan, then Beastie Boys "Fight for Your Right," Led Zeppelin "Whole Lotta Love," and Pink Floyd "Another Brick in the Wall."

KDKB STILL ROCKS (EVERYTHIG THAT ROCKS)
This is awesome. LONG LIVE KDKB! I love the streaming I’m cranking it as loud as I can on my computer at work right now ;D

I missed the 97' format, it ruled. Cool well I'm glad it's a good shake up for their format I think...

Like a fool, I tuned in at 9:33 this morning, thinking...no, hoping I'd hear something new in Phoenix radio.

Man, was I disappointed. The last song before their "new format" was It's the End of the World As We Know It by R.E.M.

How devastatingly original. ::)

Then the "announcement" from the GM. So you really decided on this format late last night, huh? And you expect us to believe that?

Then they kicked it all off with a song that was a totally cool way to launch a new format...

In 1987.

Then it was back to playing Led Zep, Pink Floyd, the Scorpions, etc. etc. etc.

Color me unimpressed. Hell, the college station I worked at did a better job of re-branding themselves.

So basically they spiced up their dinosaur rock with some new titles, well new 10-15 yrs ago! How disappointing. All that stunting for what??? How are they going to really set themselves apart from 97.9 and 100.7?? Was really hoping for something new to shake it up a bit in this market but nope the same old rock. Woooppeee

I hate to sound old and decrepit, but I remember when KDKB was relevant, and respected its listeners.

What a lame stunt. Not much has changed it is the exact same format. Maybe a few playlist additions here or there, big deal.

The good news is, i don't think anyone outside of this board even noticed anything.

anything to the johnathon brandmeier rumor ?

It's FAR from over, Ricky

I'm not sure what "new direction" everyone was hoping KDKB would take on. I was concerned about what station in town was going to play "Edie" and "Jet City Woman" at 3 AM now when I'm pulling an all-nighter. I haven't heard any Queensryche yet but it seems like it's more or less back to usual programming. Leave me my 80s buttrock, thanks.

The infrequent Spanish notices were troubling, but after hearing Metallica's black album in its entirety for the second time I couldn't bring myself to believe that they were actually switching to Super Gigante Musica en Espanol.

KDKB has been irrelevant since so long ago it's hard to remember. This 'stunt' was the stupidest thing I've ever heard in radio (aside from Barry Komando's sound effects).

The new voice guy doesn't do it for me either. Movin' at least would have been interesting for awhile.

Hold on...

Nelly Furtado
Usher
Madonna
Shakira
Pink
Jennifer Lopez
The Black Eyed Peas

would be interesting? Uck... And have you even heard Whoopi? She talked for over an hour on "How to apply sunscreen." I'm serious!!!! And poor Cubby...he acted like he WAS interested in the fact that you should "Apply a half hour before going outside."

YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME? No thanks. I would rather hear "Night Ranger" over "Whoopi" anyday.

The larger point is that, while those artists with Whoopi might not have worked on the 93.3 frequency, it would have been something different.

What's different about KDKB? Apart from the positioning statement and the voice guy, not a damned thing.

The whole "thanks for 35 years, we're going away, and enjoy our new format" was a LIE. Radio folks know it, and dedicated listeners know it, too.

The "format change" of KDKB was nothing but hype, and poorly executed hype at that. The website and the on-air stunting promised something new...something different. We were expected to get excited about whatever it was that was going to happen.

But what happened was the same crap that happens when a laundry detergent re-labels its product as "new and improved...now with MORE CLEANING POWER!" Fact is that the "new and improved" label is just that...a label. The product hasn't changed at all.

I wonder how many other P1 KDKB listeners have seen through the lie.

THAT is the point. Personally, I kinda like the KDKB format. Sure it's a bit weak for my tastes, but it's okay. The problem is, they disollusioned many of whoever they had left by this poorly planned, poorly executed stunt.

And what the heck does THIS mean?

"Just when you think the world is exactly as you see it, something changes."

www.movin933.com

A few days ago, something posted here first ended up in Morse Code on that site (NOT the other way around). I agree with a theory suggested earlier -someone on this board registered that domain, and is still trying to mess with our minds.
