KDKB looking for a PD

For everyone on the board. What would be the "perfect world" scenario for KDKB's on air sound, music & jocks? What do you think could be done to this station to make it a top tier contender in the market once again and maybe even knock off KUPD? ???

I'd say, and I have some considerable cache in this matter: why not bring some actual passion to the table? Don't over think it, and let's have some fun. The building in Mesa is a cold storage locker...I know, because I've been there more than once. Change it by any means necessary!

KDKB should play the greatest rock songs ever recorded and let the chips fall where they may. Cease right now worrying about the "landscape" and roll the dice. I say this only this because I loved what it was, and I see what it could be.

Bottom line...there's little left to lose.

Ok got you loud and clear on that one. Thanks for the answer. A very concise message with a solid philosophy in an easy to grasp package. But what room can it carve out for itself in a market like Phoenix with a total of 2 classic rockers, 1 active rocker and 1 alternative rocker? How do they make themselves stand out from the rest? Would Dave Pratt returning to his old rock roots do anything for it? or is he a sail without wind these days? :-\

I hear rumblings about Kevin Manion, the former EDGE and ZONE pd. He'd a bring a fresh sound to a station that needs a lot of help.

I hope your Kevin Manion post is more than just a rumor.Would love to see KDKB "back in the game".

He would, and they do, but is that what Sandusky really wants?

They should let Jonathan L program it like his personal IPOD.

Seriously, management there at Sandusky needs a flush.

manion would be a huge mistake. he had howard at the zone and could do nothing outside of mornings. he chose to play avril lavigne instead of capitalizing on howard's audience. he's a follower and not what kdkb needs. i've heard some other names for the job both in and out of phoenix that would be much better.

Wouldn't you say that it would be kind of hard for them to do it while having to protect their two other properties in town that happen to be in the Rock genre also? ie., Active Rock (KUPD) Classic Rock(KSLX). I'm sure they don't want to step on any toes while making KDKB as successful as possible. So what does the new PD do in that case? What rock can you play that doesn't share to much with either one of their other stations while still making them sound unique? ???

Who cares about protection..this is about survival. KSLX cannibalized KDKB with the arrival of Jim Owen. Cool...get over it. The bad news is: there is no heritage left. The good news is: there is no heritage left! I repeat, there is nothing left to lose.
Beyond that, I dont' give out tips for free.

You may want to rethink that Mr. P. While KSLX has certainly dipped into the KDKB playlist, it's KDKB that has cannibalized KSLX. Every recent programmer through the doors at KDKB has thought of the mainstream rock format in terms of 1995, or what has "traditionally" been mainstream/classic rock. This is 2008, if you want to reach the 40 year old male, Steve Miller, The Eagles, Bad Co, Journey and Lynyrd Skynyrd is not the way to do it. Those are now upper demo artists and are best left for KSLX.

The notion that there isn't enough room in the market for two hard rockers, is IMHO incorrect. Look at the market demo make-up; 33% between the ages of 24-44 and 73% white. It wasn't too long ago that KDKB and KUPD were both top 3 in all male mid to upper demos. There's plenty of room. You also like to fault Bob Weaver for his approach at selling KDKB from stem to stern. KDKB has always been Sandusky's cash cow and it will remain to be so. If anything, it's been his approach to sales that has kept the station afloat while it searches for a musical identity.

Yep....new PD and other personnel changes......you might want to listen tomorrow morning.......

got some new for you...KDKB has been through more musical identies than underwear. I worked there as APD and interim PD in 1987. From rock to rock hits to classic rock to almost triple a to rock to classic rock to mainstream rock in several forms in the 90's and now. San-dumski will never let that station do what it needs to do to compete as a real player. With KSLX and KUPD, KDKB should be Triple A or Alternative.

Dig Dog the airheads finally GONE!

I travel back and forth from ATL and Phx. The only thing I felt that poor guy JR was lacking was always having to put up with Marcy. Why can't 93.3 actually get a girl that KNOWS this area? Not to mention doesn't have the "I'm going to stay up all night and screw every guy and get drunk additude". Seriously, I am so darn tired of hearing the typical girl that PD's and GM's seem to think us guys are going to like..WE DON'T!

She knew ZERO about our town, zero about sports. THERE has got to be women that are decent dj's that would sound good with this guy. I chose 93.3 over 98 cause too much 'male additude' can get BORING after awhile. Nothing against the girl that does 10am after the morning show, she is TOO butch for me. And Marcywas WAY to airheaded. PLEASE get someone in between. The kind of chick that you would WANT to hang out with and hear what she has to say. AND knows PHOENIX already! I looked on 933.3 website and I can understand internally they are lacking BAADLY even with the part time chicks they have there.

Bottom line, thank you 933 for getting rid of that chick in the morning. Now go find us a real girl that will rawk our world!

What happened to Marci? Did she get fired? I haven't heard anything.
