KDLD/KDLE Off the Air?

Hopefully Entravision is rethinking that mistake they made on January 15, 2009. ;D

I wish...but few heads of station groups lack the vision quite like Walter Ulloa...he lives quarter to quarter, trying to figure out how to satisfy the investment community, and once one investors call is over, he starts planning how to reduce costs in time for the next one....it's how he lives every day

You mean the mistake that quintupled the 18-49 share compared to Indie in the PPM.

Thats why they should be named Entra-lack-of-vision. That company is a mistake itself, they even make Clear Channel look good.

Yeah, because looking at the 18-49 demo shows how much better it's doing, even though 25-54 men was Indie's demo! I don't see how anything could become "quintupled" on the 103.1 signal...

Even in that tight demo (very tight for a station with limited coverage) KDLD is about 2.5 to 3 times the share-getterr that Indie was in PPM.

18-49 is the sales demo now, and it is also the one Entravision is most familiar with selling as it is the primary Hispanic buying demo.

But David - Did they Quintuple the Billing? Did they even double the Billing? Did they even match the billing of Indie?

No, No & No.

No, No & No.

Only one station in LA increased between 2008 and 2009. The others were off or, int he case of a couple, were flat.

In 2009 KDLD was a new station... it usually takes 6-9 months to start getting on buys in a transactional market. In any case, with the end of the second JSA, the KDLD revenue had totally collapsed towards the end of 2008, so any comparison is difficult. Of course, the fact that KDLD has nearly no expenses now makes it a good change... even more if you look at the fact that KDLD, KSSE and KLYY can be comboed to make an effective sales proposition while Indie was of no use in selling KSSE and KLYY.

They knew they would never match the Indie billing, but Gato costs so little to run that the profit margins were bigger. Again, all Ulloa cares about. The selling combo/trombo that David mentions should have worked in theory, but when the stations are getting battered in the ratings, selling the #7,8,9 Spanish language stations, (in some demos, some books), does you no good. With the industry being what it is, most Spanish language advertising accounts don't go that deep on a buy. The fact that 1st qtr radio was down about 3% compared to 1st qtr '09 for Entravision despite a 6% cut in overhead and expenses, (dropping Indie, eliminating dozens of positions in every market, etc.), is telling.

They sell them as a combo (three stations for one rate) and it is very effective as the combo competes quite nicely with staitons like KBUE and KLAX in total delivery.

It gets pitched as a combo. It rarely gets bought as a combo. Big difference
