KDLE 103.1 Reception in and near the OC

KDLE's reception in central and north coastal OC has seemingly degraded recently. Has their plan to boost their LA signal and to relocate their OC tower further south now taken place? If so, what are the charts showing regarding the impact on their coverage area, as my findings are that Newport Beach, Fountain Valley, Long Beach have a worse signal now (sometimes significantly worse) than previously.

David, my friend, I believe recently Indie moved their transmitter that used to straddle the Newport Beach/Costa Mesa line near Superior Ave (IIRC) to the tower on top of a hill overloking the 73 Tollway overlooking the Toll Plaza. It's the exact same location as JILL-FM's (according to the map on radio-locator). That might explain why reception is spotty in areas where it used to be stronger. Don't know about any accurate charts on the site showing coverage area.

Is the tower here?

I worked next to the "KOCM" tower on West 16th Street in 1973!! 1000 watts then.

SRF, my friend, indeed the move of the KDLE tower further south to accomodate the move of their LA tower had been planned for some time. I had not read, however, that it had materialized, other than the station's reception has very recently degraded in Newport Beach, Fountain Valley, Long Beach and environs. Interesting, that 92.7's signal is far superior in those same areas - even though the towers for the two stations are now adjacent to each other. Does anyone know when the move happened and if there are signal differentials between OC's 92.7 (KLIT) and 103.1 (KDLE)?

The Orange County (KDLE) signal is highly directional and has been neutered so the power of their Culver City tower (KDLD) could be increased.

Originally, the KDLD signal was highly directional, with only about 800 watts being radiated towards Orange County. It now runs 3700 watts non directional.

The original Newport beach tower (shown in the link) ran 2 kilowatts non directional. They now run about 200 watts directional from a much higher location near the Toll Booths on the Toll Road.

The KLIT antenna is not directional, which is why its signal is much better towards the north and south. It is located at the same location as KDLE.

Here are the signals. The null in the Culver City signal is due to the Santa Monica Mountains.
