KDOC News--Daybreak OC is a big joke!

OMG!! This Daybreak OC thing has been an utter disaster! The first half hour yesterday was hampered by so many technical and anchor foulups that it could have filled two hours of NBC's Most Outrageous Bloopers. The rest of the show was free of tech glitches but still one of the most amateurish shows I have ever seen. They are obviously trying to save money by using OC Register reporters with no TV experience as on air talent. Their technical crew must be from local high schools. But they have topped themselves today. Their entire video signal went out and they are doing an audio only 'cast with a crawl saying "Please Stand By, We are Experiencing Technical Difficulties". How long will KDOC's management be able to put up with this crap?

What... you expected a News or Information show from KDOC. Come on, this is a comedy show and it's even in living color - at least when the signal comes through. What the heck - it beats infomercials and can be good for a few laughs.

This sounds like KRON4 in San Francisco owned by Young Broadcasting- the idiots of broadcasting!

Obviously an attempt by the new owners to make KDOC into something a little more than an automated cash cow. I applaud their desire to make the station more community oriented but am sorry to hear that the production quality of their new show is poor.

I thought they couldn't get any worse than Michelle Merker's spartan news breaks. Guess I was wrong. Using print journalists for other media can be a mistake, just ask the Washington Post. They folded their radio show after only, what, a couple of months?

KOCE has an OC magazine show with Warren Olney and from what little I've seen of it seems to have very good production values.

The Ellis family paid 150 million for KDOC, I guess they just ran out of money for competent staff. Maybe they can recruit Orange Coast College students as the school has a very good R/TV program and they're nearby.

Time-Warner cable has been running ads for this out here in Palm Springs. KDOC is not carried here tho. I guess it is just as well. Michelle Merker was spartan. Anybody remember the nightly half hour newscasts in the early 80's on ch. 18 ? Talk about spartan ! It was a guy and a girl. Can't remember her name, but the guy called himself Paul Shaffer although his real name was Paul Curtis, which she would accidentally call him on the air from time to time. After the demise of the ill-fated cast I heard she became a hairdresser in Beverly Hills.

Actually, they got all the bugs worked out and it is a pretty decent product now. But it took them three weeks to hit their stride.

I watched a few weeks ago....shortly after startup and I felt the screen was WAY too busy with the anchor, plus a small live traffic camera shot, a ticker at the bottom of the screen, plus some graphics all running at the same time. Looked sorta like a web page. Talent capabilities aside, the lighting of the talent was also terrible with a lot of shadowing.

In all fairness, I will watch again and hopefully they've cleaned things up.

FYI, KDOC is looking for a writer-producer for Daybreak OC. They just put out the call this week.

So if you've got the chops and think you can make this show better, send in your resume.
