KDOC, nice retro station!

While vacationing in So. Cal. a couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to watch the "Endless Classics" on KDOC/Channel 56. What a gem of a station! This was no longer the wall-to-wall Dr. Gene or Wally George station (much as I liked both of their shows, but in moderation). Loved watching "The Wild, Wild West", "Bewitched" and more. What disappointed me was that KDOC was not on the hotel's cable system (The Fairfield Inn on S. Harbor in Anaheim). Considering that KDOC is licensed to Anaheim, you'd think KDOC would be on the cable system. All of the others 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 13 et.al. and CNN, Weather Channel and the typical lineup were there. Fortunately, I had my trusty color Watchman in the suitcase. I figured with analog sunset looming near in 2009, I might as well use it! I was not disapointed. Wish I had a dish to watch KDOC, here in the east (alas, with syndex, no can do....). LA, you've got a great Indie with KDOC.

KDOC is a pretty good station, and since the change in ownership about two years ago, they've come a long way. The new ownership has invested a lot into the station, such as getting the rights to the Stanley Cup champion Ducks (they split the games with Fox Sports Net West/Prime Ticket), acquiring a lot of other reruns that the big guys up the road let go in recent years (Cheers, The Nanny, Mad About You, Little House, Saved By The Bell, and sharing Becker with KCBS). However, I still wish that can cut back on the informericals on the weekends and add more regular programming, especially since the bigger stations (outside of live sports) are just throwing junk on the air.

Re: KDOC, nice retro station! - technical comment

Fry's sells a USB HDTV tuner in the 50-75 dollar range (probably available at other places). If you travel on the road with a laptop it makes it easy to tune in the locals.

P.S. And I didn't hear you on the local repeaters with an HT? it's better than TV :)
