KDOC-TV sold

Radiant Life Ministries (TCT Network) has bought KDOC-TV for $ 41,000,000.00. The last time KDOC sold it was for
Microsoft Word - Draft Purchase and Sale Agreement.DOC

“Purchase Price” shall mean the amount of One Hundred Forty-Nine Million Five Hundred Thousand Dollars ($149,500,000);

Probably means the end of my MeTV viewing. Weigel had kept it on 56.3 as a "fill-in" for places where their own KAZA/54 doesn't cover (even though I am technically in their primary contour there appears to be terrain issues and I don't actually receive a strong enough signal to decode).

Of course, I blame them for deciding to channel share with a LPTV in the repack. Dumb move.

To be clear, KAZA was in the channel share with KHTV-CD before Weigel bought it.

Thanks, Trip, but that still doesn't make it receivable at my house.

Sad to see KDOC might be gone as we knew it. I remember watching the station back in the early 80s, they would have reruns of "Green Acres" and "Hogan's Heroes" and I would wake up early to watch "Lassie" on Saturday morning. And of course, Request Video, Wally George, Japanese shows on weekends and Dr Gene Scott all were on KDOC back in the day. They had the "Feeling of The Southland" jingles (which I can't find on YouTube anymore). But I can see that an independent station playing re-runs can't be profitable anymore in this day and age.

By the way, if you have a Roku player, you can download an app called "Free 2 View", which is a legal download, and you can stream MeTV, Decades, Antenna TV, etc.

There are actually two versions of this. I know because I have both on my Roku.

On the original, you have (all digi-nets except for ION Plus; my apologies if I can't make a list for this)...
  • Antenna TV
  • Charge!
  • Circle
  • Comet
  • Cozi TV
  • Create (not sure which station this one comes from)
  • Decades
  • Defy TV
  • Grit
  • Heartland
  • H&I
  • ION
  • ION Plus (the streaming-only one)
  • Laff
  • Me-TV
  • Movies!
  • NBC's LX
  • PBS (via Maryland Public Television)
  • PBS Kids (not sure which station this one comes from)
  • Retro TV (yes, the one that kicked it off in 2005 as RTN)
  • Rewind TV
  • Start TV
  • TheGrio
  • This TV
  • TrueReal
  • World (via Alabama Public Television)
There's also ABC News LIVE, CBS News, NBC News NOW, Global News, CBC News Highlights, FOX Weather, and WeatherNation on there.

In the second version, there are more options including these notable ones...
  • Classic Arts Showcase
  • LoupeArt
  • Stadium
  • Stingray Naturescape
  • Two Sonicentric ambient channels...
    • Island Escape
    • Relaxing Rain

While that may be useful to some (and thanks for posting it for those it is useful to), for me personally that's worthless, because I neither have nor want a Roku player.

Call me somewhat old-fashioned, but to me TV is still my television set and DVR. I don't watch TV on my computer.

KDOC was/is pretty much always a hell scape for paid and brokered programming. So many failures. From trying to recapture the lightning in a bottle that once was ONN (Orange [County] News Network) with Daybreak OC, the disaster of the New Year's Eve event KDOC First Night 2013 w/ Jaime Kennedy, to a fired Poorman trying to resurrect some success with KROQ's Loveline with The Love Channel (which I think lasted 1 week).

Yes, there was Wally George but outside of his one hour of buffoonery, the 6 to 8 hours of Dr. Gene Scott, the rest of their schedule was/is paid programming with syndicated The Goldberg's sprinkled in for an hour... AT 3AM!

Channel 56 KDOC... television for the blind.

I do miss the old days of KDOC with their bad local programming of the 80s and 90s. Watching old shows and music videos. I still miss Are-oh-Vee. Old bad movies. Random kung-fu movies.

Recently within the past few years KDOC became a station with better syndicated shows than say KTLA. That station is pretty much local news all day anyway. KDOC got the local syndication rights to Young Sheldon. I think you are confusing KTLA with KDOC. KDOC shows The Goldbergs at 12:30AM-1:30AM weekdays. KTLA shows that show at 3:30AM on weekdays.

Does anyone have an idea as to what will happen to the station?

From Independent to TCT Religious. This also means that KABC's 7pm news on KDOC is going away, whenever it happens because the deal has still yet to be approved by the FCC.

And suddenly the window of opportunity for a syndicated show to be seen in LA has gotten much smaller. KCAL is doubling down on live, local news. Other stations are as well. KTLA might pick up one or two, or they may go all in with News come the Fall, 4am-7:30pm Weekdays. Fox also might pick up a few now abandoned shows, but they seem content with the Decades/Fox Weather/Fox Soul programs they currently have on My13. I have to think both KABC and Championship Wresting are actively looking for new OTA outlets. And Meruelo might be willing to flip either KWHY 22.1 or KBEH 63.1 to English to fill these gaps. One silver lining: TCT has kept the sub-channel line-ups with other stations they've purchased. That may hold true here. Time will tell.

Expanding on what @CaliRadioFan wrote regarding KWHY/KBEH: Since KWHY has a bunch of blank-but-still-tunable subchannels (22-4 through 22-8 are all blank—not even color bars, just a black screen) and KBEH 63-5 is also blank, perhaps Meruelo could change 63-1 to English-language programming, as you suggested, and move Canal de la Fe to one of those currently-blank subchannels, and populate the remaining subchannels with anything that doesn’t fit in the schedule on 63-1; all in an attempt to fill the void created by the sale of KDOC.

as much as I love KDOC. Is there a real void with them gone? And my thoughts are with those losing their jobs and their families. i just can’t see someone else flipping their station with KDOC gone

This is on KDOC’s Twitter feed. The wrestling show says tomorrow night at 11;59pm
