KDOK 1240 is going to be sold!

BTW I saw something tonight on my Jeep's stereo that made me laugh. KDOK was running Kilgore College basketball and the RDS said:

"KDOK - Telephone Line" ;D

Well, that is coincidental., isn't it? We will need to discover how to make the RDS say something like "KC Sports" when we have live local sports coverage. About the best comment I can make is it is a work in progress.

Are you perhaps using a phone line to feed the game audio to your station?

In fact we do use a phone line for remotes, but there is no way the automation or RDS encoder would know that. Most likely, the automation was stopped while that song was playing, so the "Now Playing" file will be whatever is displayed, until that file is refreshed.

KDOK sounds great, about the only glitches I heard was the time & temperature announcements overlapping a jingle, and a few days ago I heard two Phil Collins/Genesis songs in one hour.

We're still having an occasional glitch, but probably no more than most stations have from time to time. It is usually something self inflicted. It seems computers only do what you tell them to do, not what you thought you told them to do.... But it's a work in progress and I'm always happy to get suggestions and comments from listeners.

Well if you want me to nitpick the music Eduardo-style, I heard on KDOK what sounded like a remake version of Chubby Checker's "The Twist", the UK version of The Spencer Davis Group's "Gimmie Some Lovin" which doesn't sound as good as the USA hit version, and a slower and newer(?) version of Pete Townsend's "Let My Love Open The Door", but I liked it anyway. BTW where are getting your music? Did Townsquare give you a music library when you bought KDOK?

But I do like the variety and the surprises you toss in (Hot Butter's Popcorn?) and I just heard some new jingles that sound great.

I got nothing from Townsquare other than the license, transmitter and associated equipment, the tower (but not the land it is on) a couple of worn out consoles. The music is all from my personal music collection, gathered over the years.

To be honest, I'm not sure why some of the cuts I have are different than the ones you have. Most came from albums, and it was common for the album version to be different from the single. Some, I have no idea where or when I got it. (It has been a long time.) Of course, some songs get re-released and that can result in some interesting versions. I think you've already pointed it out, but it seems one way they used to fake stereo from a mono master was put one channel out of phase with the other. That can sound OK on a stereo sound system, but the two channels just cancel themselves out in mono. That's not good. I caught that happening the other day. Our studio monitors are all stereo, so it is hard to sort that out.

The transmitter is capable of C-QUAM AM stereo with the addition of a stereo generator card. I'm told they can still be purchased from BE, and it is tempting to look into it. I'm not sure there are enough AM stereo radios out there to make any difference. It seems some HD radios can also decode AM stereo, but I'll bet that most people will listen to the FM instead. It is hard to get people to go to the AM band, even if the station sounds reasonably decent.

It's all an adventure...

True, a lot of younger listeners think FM is radio, and a lot of radios have lousy AM tuners now. It would nice if 1240 broadcast in C-QUAM, I think it makes a nice improvement in sound quality and I still have a Realistic AM Stereo Tuner. Just dont pay a lot of cash for that card. I have no idea how many people have HD radios here in East Texas, probably not many. And if you're looking for any hard to find songs just PM me here for my email.

I was talking to a 16 year old friend the other day who asked "What's the point of AM? Is it something new?" We had a long conversation.... ;)

I bet you did.

And, I bet he got quite the edjumication. Wonder if he actually discovered the BAND button on his car stereo?

That's a great idea for marketing AM to the younger generation.....call it a brand new band. We can even say that Obama invented it just for them! LOL

That would make a great liner:
"If your kids dont think AM Radio is cool, tell them our President invented it! - KDOK" ;D

The station is sounding great Chuck! (well I helped...)

Heard KDOK in Jacksonville Saturday morning on my way to a memorial for an old friend just north of there. :)

Also listened to QX-FM on AM1400. That sounded good, too.
