KDOX beats KXNT to the PUNCH!!!!!

Hey I don't know what the hell KXNT was talking about being the first AM/FM talk in Las Vegas??? KDOX just switched over to 102.3FM as of 6pm. They are the first news talk station to simulcast on the AM and FM dial. Wow whoever is over at KXNT must have some real egg on their face. I hope they don't have sweepers running that say they are the first FM talker because that would be a blatant lie! That poor imaging guy is gonna have to recut all those liners saying, "We're the 1st!" ha ha ha ha ha. Nice try CBS you drop the ball once again. Try putting a "Jill" format on 100.5 instead.

Is 102.3 a new station? I don't remember hearing anything about 102.3 in Vegas.

Anyway, thats what you get for revealing your plans way too early and doing them in the last minute. So what is CBS going to do now? KXNT-FM plans is pretty much foiled and they're screwed now, unless 102.3 FM doesn't have a full-market signal.

That little FM signal on 102.3 is sure to be bigger than 1280's 28 watt nighttime stick. But how much of the Las Vegas area will it cover compared to KXNT on 100.5 FM? :)

It's a 99-watt translator with a line up of 3rd tier programs. KDOX-FM will have about as much effect on KXNT-FM as 1280 has on 840.

Now I know what Casey was all excited about in that audio clip posted here...KDOX on FM. I was surprised at how well I could pick up 102.3 in the car. It was a clear signal, far superior to their sister station 104.7 KJUL. I very much enjoy their lineup of shows from the Salem network. I am happy about this. That being said the fact that they beat KXNT to FM by a few days means nothing. It's insignificant in the big picture.

Now if KDOX would have been the only FM talk station that could have made things interesting. Even on a tiny signal, just being on FM would have given them some special advantages over their AM talk competitors. It's still good that they are on FM but KDOX will have a difficult time coming close to beating KXNT with their all-star lineup and superior signal.

102.3 is sandwiched between two full-signals on 101.9 and 102.7. KDOX-FM will cover a bigger area with a 99-watt translator than they do on 1280 AM, but not enough to seriously threaten KXNT-FM. :)

It'll do just fine. The fact of the matter here is KXNT got screwed by KDOX. These corporations are idiots!

No it's KDOX that got screwed by KXNT. KDOX would have been much better off being the only FM talker. Looking back on everything now, CBS must have known about 102.3 and that's what motivated them to bring KXNT to 100.5.

I agree with you Jay, KDOX would be better off had Jack remained the game plan for 100.5. They would have been the only talker on FM. The way it is now, with Jack's demise on Aug 16th, will not leave much time for KDOX.

I also agree with Jay F. Think about it...
Why would KXNT announce that they are dumping JACK weeks ahead of time?
To steal the spotlight from KDOX.

KXNT knows they have the better line-up, and with JACK floundering at the bottom, they were probably already considering a flip to something else. Then, June 3rd rolls around and KDOX grabs 102.3 with the intention of bringing conservative talk to FM. I think that was all it took for CBS to make that decision, HIT THE ROAD JACK. Then, announce that you making the switch right before KDOX-FM comes on.

Better Line-up, Better Signal, KXNT-FM will bury KDOX-FM.
But huge kudos to KDOX for grabbing up the 102.3 translator. I know it's stuck between 101.9 and 102.7, but it should still do just fine.

No contest between the stations. KDOX will now have 3 straight hours of kids on the air. Casey and Heather sound about 12 years old and the kid on the air after them sounds like this is his first job in radio, so unpolished and nasaly, whiny sounding. Sorry! Honest criticism.

Actually KWWN beat them both, turning the Lotus 98.9 KXPT translator into the KWWN 1100 AM translator. I think we were on at least a week before either of them. Now it's ESPN Sports and local sports personalities on the FM dial at 98.9. No plans to change the sucessful programming we do on KWWN 1100.

Is KNPR considered Talk ? Didn't there used to be a Hot Talk format on fm? All this verbage about who is first is for naught. None of you are and thats that !!!

Is KWWN simulcasting on 98.9 FM? :)

KWWN AM 1100 ESPN Lotus Las Vegas is also Simulcasting on 98.9 FM from Black Mt Henderson.

The KWWN translator, located on Black Mt. Henderson, right next to all the big boys has a city grade coverage (70 dbu) over the entire metro area. Despite the fact that the two crossed yagi type antennas are aimed one North and one East, I get a quite respectable signal at our studios near Durango and Flamingo on the west side. Everywhere in town in a vehicle the signal is fine. The Buidling penetration is not as good as the 100KW stations, but still respectful for a 100 watt station!
