KDOX beats KXNT to the PUNCH!!!!!

The first FM talk was HOT TALK 105.1 about 7-10 years ago. It featured Carla Raye who was excellent on the radio. She is a local comedian but had a sharp edge like Heidi Harris on KDWN. Most recently, she was on KVBC morning show with WAKE UP WITH THE WAGNERS... she took phone calls and e-mail comments and shared them with the TV audience. When the management shakeup happened, she lost her job on/off camera and was replaced by another pretty young face with a laptop computer. Also heard on 105.1 was the DON & MIKE show which was lost when 105.1 went spanish. They later appeared on HOT TALK 1140 AM with Tom Leykis. Then AM 1140 dropped their talk format and became KIDS radio.

I remember that! Jim (?) and Julie Range were on afternoons, right? They were fun, but as I recall, she had such a beautiful speaking voice that "hot talk" didn't really suit her. She sounded too refined. Hard to pull off trash talk with a voice that pretty. I, however, have never suffered with the "too great for trash talk" voice. ..LOL

Don't know whatever happened to either of them. Hadn't they both been on TV or something prior...? I do remember that they weren't "on air" novices.

I am working on getting the apparent loudness up on the KWWN translator. Sports talk is in general a much lower density of volume than conventional scripted news, so new issues are involved. I can only limit, compress and gate moderately otherwise it sounds "pumping". Some tweaking of the frequency response should give me a bit better loudness. I thought the idea that loud = listeners= ratings died out somewhere n the 80's. It's content!

Thats fine if you listen to only one station. Most people listen to many stations and dont like having to turn the volume up and down all the time. Now on the other hand Sporting News on 100.5 over the weekend was totally over modulating. Sounded horrible.

Why is jackbaby.com still up? It still hasn't been replaced by the KXNT website or anything...

Yeah, looks like they just replaced the logo on jackbaby.com and all of the old Jack-FM content is still up there. I would have just forwarded the address to kxnt.com.

Guess they saw my post and removed the site completely.

jackbaby.com doesn't exist anymore, just sends me to a "page cannot be displayed" page. They could've at least redirect it to KXNT though.

After punching in to KXNT-FM a few different times, the audio always seems a bit over-modulated. Sometimes it's just plain distorted. I also noticed that even though the "stereo" indicator is on, the audio is mono. Not a big deal for a talk station, but the commercials and bumper music could sound better if in stereo.

The Jackbaby.com site is still up, you just have to get to it thru Bing or Google

jackbaby.radio.com still exists, it's just the original URL that didn't work. CBS Radio Las Vegas must be lazy... ::)
