Iowa KDPS

So, yeah, I know it's had its present facilities just west of downtown Des Moines since 1958, and is intended to serve an educational purpose.

But it seems the educational purpose of KDPS these days is to show students how to run a fully automated radio station. This probably reflects the reality of modern radio, but I wonder why every tune cuts off one second or so early.

Someone there isn't paying attention.

I'm guessing the students running the station haven't yet covered the chapter on how to properly set EOM markers.

Yes, but this has been going on at least for three years (since I reconnected with my Des Moines relatives).

Next time I'm there, I may just march myself on over to 18th & Grand and politely (because this is Iowa after all) ask them to fix it. They might be surprised to find that they have a listener, even if only occasionally.
