KDRP-LP moves its 100.1 repeater into Austin. Reception reports?

The 100.1 translator licensed to Henly is now in Austin.
KDRP posted this coverage map.
http://kdrplive.net/ways-to-listen/coverage-map/

The dial between KVET and KASE used to be empty except for KXBT at 98.9
Now you have
98.5 KOKE FM Austin translator
98.9 KXBT (soon KUTX)
99.3 KOKE FM parent signal from near Coupland
99.7 KLBJ AM translator
100.1 KDRP-LP Austin translator

Is it legal though? 103.1 is taken in Austin, so KDRP might not be able to feed 100.1.

Being about 30 miles southeast of Austin, I can pick up RDS now. Havn't checked in my truck yet. Nice that they moved in closer.

KDRP will feed 100.1 through its HD subchannel on 107.1.

Nice, forgot about that. Seems Austin has some more locally programmed radio, then. :)

Now all we need is for someone to start a station like KDRP or KOKE in San Antonio.

That explains why I was getting a solid signal on 100.1 while tuning around in the parking lot of Barton Creek Mall last Sunday during a trip to Austin...was wondering what was going on.

The main KDRP signal on 103.1 lost a lot of its eastern coverage area when the co-channel Austin translator went on the air. I used to be able to hear KDRP all the way to the 290/MoPac intersection. Now KDRP gets clobbered four or five miles east of Dripping Springs. The old 100.1 site was barely audible along MoPac.

I recall when the entire dial above 98.3 was empty. :D Of couse, Austin only had four FM's back then (early-mid 60's.)

The translator at 100.1 is actually stronger than KDRP. It has significantly higher wattage, and the antenna's almost 1200 feet up, or about three times higher than the main station's antenna!

Completely inaudible at Steck and MoPac. Some signs of a signal on my meter, but no decipherable audio at all. But then, were in a hole here (I always rant about 104.9). Will try in the car on MoPac proper tomorrow.

It sounds like a bad audio connection, or a bad internet connection audio feed.

Try contacting the station. Can you please post an air check so I can hear it, if it's not too much trouble? LOL I've heard poorly Internet fed FM stations before.

You know, an idea is that it might be picking up 107.1 HD3 off-air. But HD3 signals usually sound terrible. I have heard an FM translator once that decided to feed their audio from the originating HD2 signal, and it didn't sound all that great either.

I thought KOKE was on HD-3? I'll see how much time I got after work this afternoon, leaving out of town tonight. If not today I can do it next week.

Thanks bro!

You know, Austin radio is actually getting a little better. Two new stations that care about radio (KOKE and now KDRP)!

Better than San Antonio, IMO. We have the usual big and boring stations, and some low-powered translators. But the low-powered signals that could be owned by real broadcasters are for the most part just illegally operated Spanish stations.
At least we have KNBT 92.1.

It'll be next week, was busy at work, I'll try to get one after work Monday.

KDRP's 100.1 translator sounds fine in South Austin but horrible in North Austin. Now that I re-read their coverage map, it does show hash marks through what should be its "local" signal coverage area on the north side. Maybe the 100.1 is a station for South Austin.

Indeed, this afternoon it was audible on Anderson Lane just east of MoPac, but continuing down Burnet Road it started to fade by the time I'd crossed Koenig Lane. Not much of a signal for this part of town at all.

Directional to protect WACO on 99.9.

Check the "relative field polar plot" of its directional antenna on the FCC FM Query site.
There is almost no signal north of the Westlake tower site.
