KDWN/Heidi Harris

KDWN is extending Heidi's rambling until 12 Noon, starting Monday. So where does this leave Neal Boortz? Without Neal, there's really no reason to listen to KWDN.

KDWN would be better served to ad Ed Schultz 9-NOON, but sadly, are limited by corporate provincial ideological considerations. These are not shared by the majority of the potential Clark County listening audience who vote Democratic, are raising families, want national health care, and many are in Unions.

Sadly, in the Vegas market, there is only one liberal host on the air, and he has to buy his own time - Doug Basham with occasional co-host Lydia Cornell. In Doug's favor, he has morning drive on AM 1230, and with promotion should easily be able to get 3-4 shares 25-54.

The preceding announcement paid for the by the Basham Fan Club!

If Basham is such a talent, why does he have to buy his time slot? Don't say it's because of corporate radio mentality either. (Even though I am NOT a fan of corporate radio) Basham is like a majority of Vegas radio people, A NO TALENT! Good luck to Heidi, at least KYAWN is adding local talent not more syndicated BS.

Wasn't Ed on 970 before they went Business? Kdwn is claiming Heidie is the #1 HOST IN Vegas. If I was the morning "source" I would be looking for a new job or get a face lift and a tummy tuck. He is too old for Vegas. Vegas retired people are listening to KNYE.

Just because KDWN claims she is #1 doesn't mean it's true. It's just a bunch of hype. Not a bad tactic though, sometimes if you say something enough it becomes a self fullfiling prophecy.

It will be interesting to see how Heidi does against Rush. Years ago when KXNT stole Rush Limbaugh away from them, KDWN put on Cheryl Godfrey in his place. I liked everything about Cheryl from her voice to her Libertarian political views. However, no one listened to her, Rush/KXNT had the entire talk share. KDWN has never had ratings during those hours since. Of course it didn't help that once the old owners fired Cheryl (a juicy story from what I was told) they turned those hours into a infomercial w-house for a decade.

I would say that Heidi has a better chance to succeed than Cheryl did for three reasons. 1. Heidi is much more of an in your face radio personality. As much as I liked Cheryl and appreciated how classy and feminine she sounded, she was too laid back and low key for talk radio. Her delivery was too NPRish and her content too intellectual to appeal to the masses.

2.promotion..I have heard several people complain that KDWN promotes Heidi way too much, that it's Heidi overkill. Yes, it's annoying, but I also think it's very smart. I like their promote-promote-promote attitude. She's their only local weekday host, they might as well make her as top of mind as possible and condition listeners into thinking she is bigger than life itself, Let's compare that to the old K-DAWN who never once promoted Cheryl or any of their non-infomercial programs.

3. Rush is past his peak. When Cheryl competed against Limbaugh in the 90s, Rush was the biggest thing ever. Now I would say he's not quite as popular as he used to be. That being said, he is still the #1 talk host in America and the odds on favorite to win the local talk battle during those hours. If Heidi makes a big dent in Rush's numbers it would be very impressive.

I don't think that Alan Stock needs to look for a new job. First of all, despite the promo you heard, KXNT is the #1 talk station when Alan is on (as well as most other times). Also, because Heidi's hours changed, Alan will only be competing against his former co-host for 30 minutes a day. This really isn't morning source Vs. Heidi Harris, it's KXNT's morning source Vs. KDWNs morning news block and Rush against Heidi.

Finally, maybe Nye counties retired people listen to KNYE, but not many in Vegas do.

Where do Mark and Mercedes fit in? I thought they were #1.

The #1 morning show in LV is Piolin on 103.5 LA NUEVA. He is usually on top by a wide margin.

Mark&Mercedes are often the #1 English language morning show. In the recently released trend, Melanie and Michael on KSNE were #1 English.

John, of KFI's John and Ken said if they were on in Vegas doing a local show they could get twice the ratings in the English market of any one else because the local shows have stupid people on the air doing stupid topics.

In the case of Alan Stock, they have a smart person doing stupid topics.

I think he's smart --Stock. John goes boating in are once in while.

Welcome to the club. Many talk hosts, both liberal and conservative, buy their air time.

In your opinion, that is, because it is all subjective. That's a broad, sweeping statement.

Furthermore your comment on the show has not mentioned anything about the contributions of Doug's co-host Lydia Cornell.

Name one that actually has a presence in the Arbitrons.

And your point ... is?

Air America sells some of their air time, and probably gets some ratings - I would imagine, Betsy Rosenberg, Ecotalk, if that program is still on (I'm not sure).
