KDWN News...literally

Except when Roex, et al are writing a check. One would think ABC-I News could clear on a station with more than 19 watts.

Is anyone running ABC/E or ABC/D?

Of course, USA Radio really fits in with the KDWN "format" better than ABC.

Any word on when KDWN has to move out of the Plaza, or where?

roex is their best most exciting show... there new location is a single wide trailer at the transmitter site...pete moss is taking donations of old tires for the roof...

How are they getting it--on a 3.5 kHz
un-EQed phone line?

That's a good question. I don't know how they do it. Does anybody know if KDWN is the only 50K watt AM in the country that runs USA Network news? It seems they are mostly on lower watt, low rated (although that part fits KDWN) AMs. Stations with lots of brokered programming also often go with USA (hey that fits KDWN too, maybe it is a perfect match).

Actually I don't think the quality of USA Network is that bad. I especially like one of their anchors named Jason Walker, he does a nice job, it seems like he's been with USA forever. I also have a strong preference for the 5 minute newscast of USA over the 60 second (or was it 45 seconds?) Fox blurb KDWN was running for awhile, that was never satisfying and always left me hungry for more news.

There are a fair number of 50kw (at least daytime) running religious programming, that may very well run USA Network. (USA was originally for religious stations, sort of an outgrowth of the "Point of View" talk show.)
But I'm sure KDWN is the only 50kw fulltime, non-religious station running it.

Yes, Jason Walker is good. USA at least used to have a couple of anchors who had been with the "Satellite News Network"- actualy the top of the hour newscast on SMN sat formats, which was replaced some years ago with an ABC newscast.

Fox Radio has 2 affiliations: you either get the :60 update every hour and nothing else except for some actuality feeds (but you only have to clear 4 minutes of spots a day), or you get the 5:00 top of the hour cast.

USA newscasts are usually pretty good. At one time, they included some religious news stories, but those were moved to seperate religious news updates.

My inquiry was somewhat in the sarcastic mode.

Since KDWN (from posts I've seen on this board)
still uses a lot of old and low-tech equipment,
I wonder if they even have a satellite dish for
network feeds or do they still bring stuff in
via the old "Telco line" hookup? The 3.5 kHz
line was the bargain-basement one--with no EQ
it sounded barely better than a phone call.
Medium and large market stations generally had
(EQed) 5 kHz lines for network feeds.
