KDWN Sold

It's happened before

Ten years ago, 760 in Tampa, formerly the home of anti-illegal immigration hosts such as Chuck Harder, was sold and went to Spanish-language programming aimed at a Mexican audience. All of their listeners screamed bloody murder.
Fortunately, there were only three of them. I would imagine the "Stand Up America" crowd would smell a conspiracy and show up with a sea of blue hair waving little flags at the KDWN studios, only to be greeted by the Aztlan Army...

Mexican is a nationality, not a language. Most Mexicans speak Spanish, which is European. The true Mexican languages are ones like Mayan and Náhuatl, still spoken by millions of Mexicans.

Do you think of this stuff all the time or what?
KDWN will not be Spanish.

Thought I heard on TalkStar Radio Network that Chuck Harder's last day on the air will be this Friday, March 31.
Can anyone verify this?

Let's take this by parts.

1. There is nothing "politically correct" about saying that Spanish is not a radio format, but a language. It is just a statement of fact. You made a wrong statement, and I corrected you. Accept it.

2. Memin, the 50 year old comic character from Mexico, was an example of integration in that country. Memin, a poor Black boy, was the smartest of his friends, often showing the rich kid and the rest of the gang how to do something or saving the day with his cleverness. All of the characters were drawn in exaggerated form, by the way. there are, by the way, less than 0.25% Blacks in Mexico; Indians, mestizos and whites are most of the population.

2a. At the time Memin was drawn, there wre no integrated comics or movies in the US; this Mexican comic showed people of all classes (not races) getting along and benfitting form each other's expereinces. Don't throw stones if you live in a glass house... Memín showed successful integration whent he US was having riots and forced integration of schools.

3. Mexico is not racist... the US is. Mexico is "classist" where what matters is who you are, where you work, what your education is, what kind of car and home you have.

4. Mexico has had a black (Guerrero) and Indian (Juárez) president. Has the USA?

"Piolín" (Eddie Sotelo) is Mexican. He speaks with a Mexican ACCENT. There is no such thing as a "Mexican dialect" as Mexican Spanish is perfectly understandable to Spanish speakers from anywhere in the world. A dialect, if you look at the dictinary definition, is a separate branch of a langauge... like Mandarin Chinese. Spanish has no dialects.
