How did the board miss this?

Who "owns" the station now?

Does this make a sale likely in the near future and the end to 720's status
as a museum piece for the kind of geriatric talk radio that went out twenty years ago in most markets?

Not that there's anything wrong with geriatric, locally focused, schlocky talk radio... in fact I would encourage all students of the medium to listen to and aircheck the time capsule that is KDWN on their next Vegas trip before anything changes...

It's the end of an era for KDWN. It means that station management no longer has to abide by the owner's restrictions. The most likely owners are probably his children or Clair Reiss.

It may be open for some other private owner who may want to buy not the corporate ones.

If any of the talk show hosts want to buy which includes Tru Hawkins, Jim Dallas, Mark Edwards or John David Wells.

They may have to fork over couple of thousand dollars if they're interested.

KDWN may be one of the cheapest radio stations you can buy in Las Vegas because it's not very high tech. Air studio is small. It's still in the plaza hotel at least until sping 2006 when the stations contract with the hotel runs out. They will need new quarters.

It depends who owns it now or who Mr. Williams has put in his will to own it. They would ultimately decide.

It's been a little over a month since his death and the station still has not changed. Obviously, his legacy lives on.

By the way, A.J. Williams also owns KTYM AM 1460 in Los Angeles. it's an urban gospel station. <P ID="edit"><FONT class="small">Edited by billboardmister on 06/26/05 02:31 AM.</FONT></P>

station! Besides KDWN-720 was the station that I first listened to Art Bell on.

"Coast To Coast" moved over to KXNT because they wanted a higher rated station.

Art Bell probably won't create KYNE-AM. He's not political and abandoned that many years ago. His focus will be on spaceships and the paranormal universe.

He recently has had back problems and now only does weekend shifts on "Coast To Coast AM" Art has basically retired from radio.

I heard a rumor a month ago about Clear Channel buying KDWN. I didn't think much about it because I have heard that same rumor off and on since the late 90s.
Now that I learned about William's death, the rumor that I heard last month makes a lot more sense!

With all due respect to Mr. Billboard (who I think is a very good man), I disagree with his idea that KDWN will sell for a few hundred thousand dollars and that it will only be sold to a mom and pop owner. No way! If it's sold, It will cost several million and it will be sold to the highest bidder, most likely a giant corporation. The fact that KDWN uses outmoded ancient equipment will barely be a factor in the sale price, the new owner will donate it to a broadcasting museum or antique shop lol. Even the fact that the stations billing is low won't mean as much as it normally does in determining sale price, everyone knows AM 720 is a sleeping giant, with the right owner it could become a monster of a station!
 
Art Bell Maybe? Greenspun?

Bell has a state of the art studio and a low overhead plus the first penny he ever made...the double-wide was paid off years ago...he probably can eat and drink at the chicken ranch across the street for free...so all it would take is a few more dishes in his back yard..



Art Bell just said on his show that he is cutting back on his show and taking his motorhome out....with fuel prices what they are now only someone like art bell could afford a motorhome adventure like this

.I wonder if Greenspun will buy it.?..he would probably do it so he could fire Tru Truman Hawkins ....Grenspun would have to get a raise in his allowance from his mommy though....
