KEANE ON WCLZ

Did anyone hear the band Keane's in-studio performance live last Thursday afternoon? Actually, probably not, since it is WCLZ. Anyhoo, the show was fraught with technical issues, mostly involving the lead singer's mic cutting out repeatedly during their "hit" Is It any Wonder. Not only did they not even try to fix it during a spot break (oh that's right, there are no spots on WCLZ), but they're still playing that version of the song (bad mic and all) during other dayparts! Way to go, Tad!

I've never understood this. You clearly listen to WCLZ quite a bit. You heard the live performance, you've heard the song in other dayparts and it hasn't even been a week. Whatever your ax to grind is, let it go. If WCLZ is so bad then why would you listen THAT much. It's 2007, there are too many music and entertainment options available to spend so much time listening to something you don't enjoy.

It's just so frustrating. WCLZ could be a great, if niche, radio station. But instead, it sounds sloppy and predictable. The VT is horrendously done; the promos are long and stale; most of the jocks are, shall we say, underwhelming and self-absorbed; and the Keane thing is unforgivable from a listener point of view. You get all jazzed to hear something you won't hear anywhere else, and it's unlistenable because of a tech issue that could have been fixed on the spot. The original CLZ was, at times, exciting because the jocks sounded like they had a real PASSION for what they did. These people sound, again and again, like it's just another liner, just another first-take spot. Too bad.
