KEARTH #18 - call in an Oldies PD

> Folks, it's OVER!
>
Okay, maybe it's just me, but musically K-Earth sounds pretty good now.
The problem as I see it could be that they're not getting people to sample the station. It was just so stagnant for so long that people gave up on it.
Hate to say it, but KRTH used to do TV spots and great contests. Well they still do contests, but they don't promote on the small screen too much, and in my opinion you have to have TV. The only thing that can resurrect them now is Dees. But I guess that ship has sailed... A new PD with fresh ideas couldn't hurt...

There's only so many times you can play 'Unchained Melody' in a day.

Contests lame

"My Girl"

Imaging sucks

"Unchained Melody"

Morning Show Unlistenable

"Good Vibrations"

No imagination in presentation

"Shoop Shoop song"

Jocks who don't seem to care (know?)about the Music

"California Dreamin'"

Repetitive Playlist

Let's hear it again - Here's the Righteuos Bros. w/"Unchained Melody"!

*** And then they wonder where the ratings are...***

Do you listen. KRTH has added a bunch of titles from the 70s.

"Imaging sucks?". Listeners don't care about imaging. 30-40 year old
songs don't need to be explained or imaged to those that love them.
I think the Charlie Van Dyke voiced stuff sounds strong.

Jocks who don't know the music? Jim Carson, Shotgun Tom Kelly?
Two of the best!

I'll agree with you on the Morning Show, though, and that's a BIG problem!
Hollywood is a good talent...but he's a bad fit on K-Earth.

K-Earth, keep the 70s coming.

I hope K-Earth puts it together, it would be a shame if there were no Oldies in LA.

407.93201 times.

OK, so round it down to 407 to give you time
for a few liner cards and a legal ID each hour.
("KRTH-FM Los Angeles, an Infinity Broadcasting
station!"...thanks, Charlie ;-)

I know I really shouldn't have suggested this,
the KRTH Brain Trust may see it and think it's
a great promotional idea. Oh wait, they already
do it with "My Guy."

Anyone think that they may have gone down to #18 because all that 70's music was added? Maybe the listeners don't want to hear it.

First, I tire easily of people making proclamations based on 12+ numbers. It has been explained ad nauseum on every radio board here that the 12+ numbers are meaningless in terms of how decisions are made at stations.

Every station has a target demographic. KRTH's is 25-49, according to Infinity. The ratings that matter -- and which people outside the business have no access to -- are the ones for a station's target demo.

KRTH is not doing great in its target demo, but it isn't "over" yet. I see the changes there as refocusing to the demo. The reason 70s music is more prevalent now is -- as has been pointed out frequently (especially on the Oldies board) -- because the 60s oldies have greater appeal to listeners over 45 and less appeal to those under 45.

The real danger at KRTH is the same one that we have talked about over and over and over ... a limited number of in-play titles, resulting in higher repetition. You can apply the same "hey, let's hear 'Unchained Melody' again" complaint to "Can't Help Myself" just as easily. Even a great song can become tiring when played too frequently.
______________

Yes indeed....and....no sign of Secret Police Yet.
No other board is wound so tight.
