KEDA playing oldies on Sunday afternoons

On Sunday afternoons/evenings, I've been hearing this Oldies show on KEDA 1540 AM and it's translator on 102.3 FM.
It's live and local and there are many songs here that aren't on the dial anywhere else in town. I'm sure it would bring back some of the older listeners down memory lane. Did they borrow some songs from their new sister oldies station KBRN 1500? Neither station seems to be streaming, unfortunately.

Sunday afternoons? Bad idea. That same target demo is watching the NFL.

KEDA is "Radio Jalapeño" and the most traditional Tejano station in San Antonio... so traditional it plays a lot of conjunto music still. In the era of conujunto, Tejanos also listened to Top 40, so it's a nice fit for a station that targets Tejano listeners only.

The only problem with the show is that it targets 55+ or even older. But for a local AM it is a good choice. KBNA in El Paso just recently eliminated such a show from Sundays due to the age issue. However, it was getting over a 10 share and was usually #1 in the market.

Are you saying Latinos don't watch the NFL? They sure do here.

First, I am talking about Tejanos and not all Hispanics. There is a difference.

But as to Hispanics in general:

1. They do not watch as much as non-Hispanics. Football is not a heritage sport among Hispanics.
I. Hispanic females watch even less.

My point is that XEDA is not a non-Hispanic targeted station and the 55+ Tejano audience it has has been seen to give huge audience numbers to old Top 40 gold on Sundays. Like El Paso, San Antonio has no home team so the following of the NFL is a bit less, also.

Don't tell that to the San Antonians. When it comes to football season, San Antonio magically morphs into Deep South Dallas. It typically lasts 17 weeks, unless Romo & the girls back door their way into the playoffs. SA may not have a team of their own, but it is most certainly an NFL crazy town.

I'm going to check out the show next weekend. I love my Radio Jalapeño while in SA, I'll give the oldies a shot. You know Mouse, this used to happen on 980 here in Houston, as well. It was called the "Class Reunion", and ran from 8a-12n. We lost that right along with the Tejanos when KRTX was sold to Aleluya.
