Keep an ear on 102.3 Concord

The FCC has issued a deadline of 12mid tonight (8/22) for Nassau to end their control of the channel. So what happens? Filler format? Dead air? WEEI? Stay tuned.

PTR

A follow up to other threads, what we need is a station that plays:

Classic Smooth Punk Country Urban AC Rock during the day,
News, Talk, Sports, (canned) Weather at night, and overnight The Best of Deliah. ;D

I'm hearing 102.3 just barely down here in MA tonight, and it sounds like they've just got winamp running new rock songs without even a crossfader. I put on The Hawk's stream just now, and the DJ only mentioned 101.5.

and no station id at the top of the hour either. that would open the station up to a fine if anyone were listening, right? anymore speculation on who might be buying it or what is going on?

OOH, this could get ugly! And MIGHTY interesting!

As I see it, you said the license is Vox's, correct? But the station's assets is owned by Nassau...

Hmmm, seems like Nassau might have just said the typical Army line (when true): "We're not signed for it!" ;D

In other words, if Nassau can't stand to make any profit from the station, might as well let it go down the tubes and let Vox sort out the sticky details of possible licensing issues. What a legal battle THIS is going to become!

FCC fines Nassau, FCC then fines Vox (or whoever owns the license) for lack of legal ID's. Vox refuses to pay, sues Nassau. Nassau refuses to give Vox access to equipment (including transmitter and antenna-site), station goes dark.

Maybe just not in that order. OOOH this is going to be rich!

I don't think it's exactly like that. Vox is in control now. I'm sure Ken Barlow or someone has his iPod hooked to the transmitter, or something similar. (Why they can't just shut it off for a couple days till they are more ready I don't understand.)

As for Nassau they could be liable for an FCC penalty for running the JSA beyond its expiration. As for who buys it, I hear the first $2mil takes it.

Damn I so wish I had $2 million! :'( (Oh, and maybe an out of a military contract say if I had it! lol ;D)

Anyhoo, PTR, that makes a whole lot of sense, but how could you possibly tell? lol

You're probably right. Geez, a half-way decent engineer could hook up an old cart machine and timer to just chop audio at the TOH and run a doggone cheesy-ace legal. Heck, Bob Vinikoor could do it.

Hmmm.... wonder if Bob V. has a couple mil? I'd bet he'd like to expand WNTK into the capitol!

You know that means he would cover all of the NH side of I-89 at that point what with New London in the middle there, and UVR in Leb.

Hey, I never said you'd be ENTERTAINED by the notion! ;D ::)

But thinking twice about it, that would put him in direct competition with pal KXL which might be something he would not want to do. It would also mean he really ought to think about moving studios to the capitol, and I really don't think he's into doing that. (Heck, he hadn't even moved them up to Lebanon! Even though that's where the sales office has been.)

who evers Ipod is on the station now must love ac/dc I heard a block of it yesterday afternoon. they have NO liners, no id. This can tlast long or the FCC is just gonna take the singnal back do to all the fines they will be owed.

Their programming isn't violating any FCC regs. As long as they do their TOH ID (and they do-it runs right over the music though so you may not have heard it) they can air anything they wish, even dead air.
Also, do you honestly believe the Commission would reposses a license to cover "all the fines they will be owed".
Other than the Legal ID issue, what regs do you feel are being broken?

Yep, so long as you ID it, no rules broken.

Until they figure out this mess, how bout you mix up the I-pod a bit.
Instead of a constant diet of dinosaur rock, lets have some fun.

Monday-Comedy Day
Tuesday-Smooth Jazz/Urban AC
(that will keep the "we need" threads down)
Wednesday-Country
Thursday-Left wing wacko talk - MSNBC
Friday-Right wing wacko talk - Fox News
Saturday-Oldies
Sunday-The Best of Everything ;D

After the dust has cleared, I'm thinking the new call letters should be WEE(pick a letter not being used)

How about WEEP. "Radio so bad it'll make you cry" ;D
BTW, maybe it's me, but I've found MSNBC to be one of the more balanced news networks...when they're actually doing news. It hardly qualifies as "left wing wacko talk". If you want that try the BBC World service or Arnie Arnesen locally on WCCM 1110 Salem NH. They stream if you're out of range.

WEEP, I like it.

All things considered, the WEEI brand is a known winner with both listeners AND advertisers.
Instant audience, instant money. Borrowing a line from that annoying Lennox Financial guy, "It's the biggest no brainer on earth." ;D
Besides, sure beats pounding the pavement trying to convince advertisers to try our new Smooth AC Urban Jazz station.

At the risk of turning this into a political board, (I hate politicians on both sides) between Chris Matthews leg going numb when he hears Obama speak and hiring Air America's Rachael Maddow, me thinks they're leaning a little too far to the left.
On the other hand, I like Olberman's style and format.

On a personal note, whether you agree with Arnie or not, (most times I don't), she is a GREAT lady.

Yes she is, and I didn't mean to imply otherwise. I've worked with her at other stations and found her smart, funny, and likable. I just can't listen to her show without my blood pressure rising to dangerous levels.

what are they playing now? I would love to hear hard rock if it is...
they can violate the rules if they don't do the "serve in the local interest programing once a week or psa's cant they
is there an online stream?

I know the last 6 months last fall Rock WVRR 101.7 did just the top of the hour ID, a few psa's, sunday morning serve in the local interest programming and played Music until it changed to 1019 K-rock. as yes I am still pissed that their is basically a a dead 101.7 and 101.9 frequency in White River JCT points north where 101.7 used to make....( all the way up to wells river)

Sorry I hadnt heard any top of the hour ID, but if you say its there I trust you, I honestly cant listen that long. I checked in today and it was classical followed by dead air. After 2 mins I switched it.
