Keep an ear on 98.7

Was hearing a pretty good signal early Saturday afternoon on 98.7 while driving around the Cy-Fair area. Was running Spanish language religious music. No announcements that I heard, and the signal abruptly left the air at 1:19pm. Same reception quality as 94.1 at my location.

Could this be K254BZ testing? They recently filed an application to move to Missouri City.

Dang it, I just missed it then. Currently 13:30, and a barely receptive U2 is on 98-7. That's Victoria, so I should've checked earlier. You're getting it in Cypress? Seems they have the directional facing the wrong way. It should be aiming towards Needville and Richmond/Rosenberg. Apparently, you're getting more from the side swipe, than I expected.

The CP was granted to move recently.

However the sale to Cesar Guel is still not granted. LOL it seems he used a family member's name because the FCC doesn't like him. See this article from the end of 2014, others apparently don't like him either. http://www.radiosurvivor.com/2014/12/23/financial-troubles-antonio-cesar-guel/
I don't know if the FCC will allow the sale, but I expect Guel's operation is the one airing the Spanish music on the signal... Is KKBQ HD2 or KKBQ HD3 playing Spanish music? If not, what is this translator's primary station?

I'll just say, you're short with your expectations.

Edit to add: KKBQ-HD2 is the Ben Hall programming. KKBQ-HD3 will be airing whatever is supposed to be fed onto the new K254BZ, and yes...it will very likely be Spanish language.

Purpledevil you beat me to the punch haha, I'm hearing it very clear on my side of town Crosstimbers and 59 north. Still playing Christian Music in Spanish , just curious to see if it was the same programming as 94.1 but no. I haven't been following this translator much. But if not mistaken I remember hearing that it was the Guevarras?

It was not owned by Centro as far as I know, Mr. Tejano. It's currently owned by an organization in Georgia.

Sorry Purple, just trying to raise some awareness. I've seen others do the same before here, anyway.

Thanks I have heard the same here that's why I asked.

Frog caught this one, the credit is all due to him. As the good Tejano stated, K254BZ is back in action, loud and clear in the 4-4. With my receiver, there is no separation issues with it and next door neighbor KTJM. On a lesser quality unit, I don't know. I can almost certainly state that this is the same audio that was being sent to K283CH when it first signed on from downtown. Only problem I can hear from K254BZ is a constant hum in the audio. Not sure what's causing that, but it's a bit annoying. It's similar to having a high pitched ringing in your ears.

Mouse, nothing to be sorry for. You are on point. I just can't add anything to what you voiced, due to a request I am honoring.

Hey, Frog, you're our resident HD guide. Is KKBQ-HD3 feeding this, or no? No way of telling from the translator, as there are no IDs or anything, just wall to wall Christian music.

PURPLEDEVIL, In My car hear that hum when there's a space from one song to another. I'm surprised it picks it up very clear on my home stereo too. I was looking for a estimated coverage map but couldn't find one.

I'm glad it's A Christian station but was expecting something a little different. Like a little different music format, is contemporary music the only thing Christians like? Why can't there be a station that plays Christian Regional music?

Tune to La Mejor, Señor. The hum has now appeared over there, as well. I hadn't noticed it before K254BZ's sign-on, so...1+1, eh, Mouse?

That'd be me...

I could not find any originating station for 98.7 during a scan on the HD radio late this afternoon, so it would appear K254BZ is being directly fed for the time being. Wonder if there is a "real" format coming, as we saw with 104.5?

While on the subject of HD, I discovered that KLTN HD-2 is running KXTN out of San Antonio, complete with the SA local commercials. Perhaps this has been going on for a while, but its the first time I've caught it - in the past it seemed to be a locally originated Tejano format.

KXTN from San Antonio on KLTN has been going on for years. Almost since they sold 980 am. I think it changed a few months after Tejano flipped to KXTN.

Currently testing the translator, Frog. Apparently, a new (and unique) format is to follow for the translator. KLTN HD2 has supposedly been running KXTN's audio since the sale and demise of local Tejano 980. At least, that's what I have read in several places including here.

You mean to tell me IHeartRadio is operating the 98.7 translator currently with no primary station? I think they operate La Mejor, and if it's the same hum it might be the same engineer...

I think KXTN is also being fed on Univision HD channels in Dallas and Austin as well. At least, they were at one point.
