Keep Norah O'Donnell on The CBS Early Morning Show

It was a delight to see Norah back on with Charlie Rose this morning. They do make a great team.

Yes, it was. They mentioned that Erica Hill was "on assignment" -- permanently perhaps? :D

Years ago, they used to use "on assignment" for a few days/weeks to make a transition between anchors.

You may be right. Hard to imagine an on-air person for a major network program taking vacation for two weeks in a row, unless the networks are not in the "sweeps" or there are personal reasons for Erica Hill not to be at work.

Sorry to burst your bubble folks but Erica Hill was back in the co-anchor's chair this morning with Charlie Rose. So it appears, for the time being at least, that Norah O'Donnell was just filling in for Ms. Hill.

I noticed the difference without O'Donnell on the set. And it's kind of sad because there is something missing without her there. Like a void that can not be filled.

I was glad to see Erica back. Yes, it was different than with Norah, in my view it's a big improvement having her back.

Gosh darnit why can't Erica Hill be as witty and upbeat as she was on Anderson 360? I think Charlie Rose drags down the whole show myself...everything else is fine with it IMO.

Speaking of CBS This Morning , I sure hope they are performing well, as Today and GMA are such tabloid fodder now. I am liking CBS' format much better.
'

Anchors aside ( I don't know Norah O'Donnell and missed her stint), I also like the CBS This Morning format, which is less tabloid and has more news segments even after 7:30 and also after 8:00. By 8:00 GMA is too much a playground. But, sometimes I want that perkiness and I like the GMA anchors, so I go with GMA.

Agreed. I like the CBS This Morning format best too...but, I'm willing to give Today another shot with Ann Curry out of the picture. I've always liked Savannah Guthrie, and I'm a sucker for the Olympics, so I'll be watching NBC pretty consistently over the next 2.5 weeks. If they can manage to stay away from becoming Entertainment This Morning (As opposed to Entertainment Tonight) after 7:30, it wouldn't take much convincing for me to go back.

Looks like a case of "wish and you shall receive" with this thread :D...CBS is indeed moving O'Donnell to This Morning as of September and she will leave as White House correspondent, while remaining the Face the Nation backup, while Erica Hill will get a "new role".

It is a good move; I'm a regular watcher of CBS This Morning and loved seeing Norah last week, and she was great during the Aurora breaking news. A little down that Erica Hill is out though, since I've been rooting for her since the days she was on the late, great TechTV News, but she just never screamed as being a "morning host" to me (her co-host Michela Perriera on TechTV as the KTLA Morning Show host was a perfect fit though).

Maybe CBS saw an increase in ratings.
* People emailed them
* People snail mailed them
* Someone from CBS reads this board

Or all of the above.

Thank goodness! This must be a first in recent years -- a television news executive makes a good decision! :D

Apparently CBS executives planned all along to replace Erica Hill. They wanted to see how Norah O'Donnell could handle herself in that position as co-host.

Good move on the part of CBS.

Is that observation based on the article from the Washington Post in which the average ratings for "CBS This Morning" for the week of July 16th were compared with the average ratings for "Good Morning America" for the same week and the average ratings for "The Early Show" during its final months? If so, I did see anything indicating whether some folks at CBS were planning for a long time to replace Erica Hill or not.

If the writer of the article really wanted to express her personal feelings, she should have began the article with something like this: I believe CBS News has figured out the source of their ratings problems with 'CBS This Morning' and that problem is Erica Hill (I don't agree with the idea). She should have not placed this part of the article after the comparison of ratings:

CBS News has figured out what is the problem.

The problem is — Erica Hill.

I believe many TV viewers and listeners are not interested in "CBS This Morning" and other morning news programs because they are tired of hearing broadcasters express their personal feelings about the news and they tired of the way they had been reporting on the race for the presidency of the United States as if there are only two candidates left (including the president).

I for one don't believe that executives at CBS made their decision to replace Hill based just on the latest ratings survey: This was in the works for some time: Maybe months now who knows?

Of the three network morning programs at least CBS is making a concerted effort to offer "real news" versus the entertainment/gossip junk that "GMA" and "Today" passes off for news these days.

CBS' problem, with regards to ratings, is that the network has changed formats so many times now viewers got tired of it and either went some where else, or just don't bother to watch any early morning shows.

Well those that wanted the change got their wish. Pretty sorry shove off for that poor girl, I mean she had been in that slot for several years on this show and its predecessor.

O'Donnell is not going to bring higher ratings, nor will she adversely impact the ratings. As for me, I'll watch the breif Eye-Opener and then flip elsewhere. I don't like O'Donnell but the job is hers.
