Keeping The Bills in Buffalo

Dictionary.com: an extreme form of skepticism: the denial of all real existence or the possibility of an objective basis for truth.
Alternatively, nihilism is the belief that nothing really matters in the grand scheme of things. Time to bring out Ecclesiastes to help cure us all of that idea!

Wow! Just goes to show Buddy not only embarrasses himself on these boards. Now he’s doing it in the Buffalo News. Why he would get involved in this controversy is beyond me. I’m thinking true Bills fans who read this just might boycott the Big WECK! The News editorial is spot on! If the state and county had stonewalled on a new stadium, the Bills would have left. Simple as that! We can debate the pros and cons of the stadium deal. But make no mistake. The Bills leaving Western New York would be devastating to hundreds of thousands of people here.

Yes, other cities succeed without NFL franchises. Yet I saw an interesting comment today from someone commenting on the News editorial. It resonated. When he goes to a game at Highmark Stadium on a Sunday afternoon, he does so with the realization that Buffalo is just one of 16 cities across the nation hosting an NFL game that particular weekend. You’re wrong, Buddy! If the Bills left, I wouldn’t root for another team. I’d largely stop watching pro football games. And I know there are more people like me than you.

What a ridiculous argument that the local economy shuts down when the Bills are playing. Malls are open. Restaurants are serving, many with the Bills games on their TVs. Sure, I’ve seen video of a Wegmans being empty on Sunday afternoons. But the day before or morning of, you couldn’t find a parking space because of shoppers buying for their Bills game day parties. Truthfully, show me data of how our local economy is dependent on what happens on a Sunday afternoon/night or a Monday night when most Bills games are played.

The Bills‘ TV rating falls anywhere from the mid 40s to lower 50s. Nothing else on Buffalo TV/radio comes close. That’s evidence enough of the Bills’ importance to our region!

So, I’ll say it again, Buddy! Stop embarrassing yourself! This letter to the editor gives me further ammunition to just not listen to your station. In fact, I wonder what your advertisers think about this!
And to the fact, it isn't 16... As they have bye weeks, night games, etc... but 32 franchises are engaged (29 - 32) with the bye week.

30 cities have football... this country only has 200 or so markets, with overlap. So if u want to experience football, you can easily get to a game.

the flip side, the team bites, no one cares and might as well leave town. The stadium only gets 10 uses a year... not really missing out on much

There are over 250 Nielsen rated radio markets, and there are plenty of additional markets that Nielsen does not do ratings in.

There are 210 TV markets, but in many cases those markets consist of multiple larger cities.

If you live in Sault St. Marie or Billings or Pocatello or Barstow or Tallahassee... to name just a few... you are a long way from an NFL game.

Although some would say the SEC is as close to pro ball as one can get without being in the NFL.
As for Tallahassee ... witness the ACC and Seminoles ... in good years, of course. Flashing back to 2013.

As the head of the station that originated the Noles games, WTNT, some years back... and a visitor to Bobby Bowden's home more than once... I'm familiar with the phenomenon. In fact, we were able to get a breakout of Saturday afternoons from Arbitron and we had over a 40 share.

And years before that, at WERC in Birmin'ham we originated the Crimson Tide and Doug Layton, my morning guy, was also the play by play announcer for the team and we had players and Bear Bryant on very, very regularly.

But we were talking about the NFL, the National Financier's League. The cool thing about college sports is that the players only have 4 years before moving on. Most could not and did not develop an ego and an attitude as they wanted to seem appealing to the NFL recruiters.

There was a softball game today at Sahlen Field. Micah Hyde and a few other
Bills lended their support in raising money for victims of the shooting and support
for the entire community and region..... What price can you put on that????
Yet another reason why THE BILLS MUST REMAIN in BUFFALO!!!!!!1

That's so inspirational !
- to me, end of discussion

I'm a 20 year transplant to the south who, other than visiting family and friends in the summer has never once looked back. From the onerous tax burden, the ridiculously high cost of living, the horrific weather many months of the year, the political climate that results in N.Y. being the least free state in the U.S. and my vehicles rusting out in a few years from the road salt I just wish we had left sooner.
I'm a Western New York guy who's lived here most of my life. Endured the winters and thrived. Kids went to state schools, got advanced degrees and are emplyed at the top of their chosen professions. Owned a car for 13 years that never developed a speck of rust. Arkansas is yet another Red State that siphons more money from the US Treasury than it sends. For every tax dollar Arkansas sends, it gets 1.09 in return. New York gets 93 cents in return for every dollar it sends to the feds. Like most Red States that decry the big bad federal gubmint, Arkansas loudly clamors for federal assistance whenever a tornado rips through the state. But I will say this, KAAY and KLRA were great AM radio stations in their days.

Where our federal tax dollars go

I don't think the fed govt should provide any storm funding either - that's what we buy insurance for. Having the govt step in to provide recovery funds also encourages bad behavior like building in known flood prone areas.

Government usually only deals with catastrophic cases, and it requires the governor to request that aid. Most insurance policies don't cover catastrophic circumstances.
