KEGL has made a change in the morning show by adding music for your morning drive. Vince Richards told me that they've been getting complaints from listeners demanding that they play music every morning during Lex & Terry's show. Any thoughts?

They are running a talk show and the audience is demanding to hear less of the hosts do any talking. That can't be a good sign...

It's not just KEGL. It's my understanding that all L&T affiliates have the option of taking an extra 12 minutes per hour to play music. As a result, L&T are only getting 30 minutes of airtime per hour. Good idea.
 
Why don't they just turn the station to the edge? As much as i don't want to say it. I think the Eagle is trying to get L&T off the air. First they played less best of shows. Then they took off the 9am hour and now they are only playing half an hour of Lex and Terry. I wonder how many complaints is a lot. Is it 5 complaints 50 complaints or 100? How many people are now complaining about not as much lex and terry? The Logic behind these radio people is a joke. They don't have many choices for new morning people if Lex and Terry get the boot. Then who will they blame when the ratings don't do good? I would be happy with Russ Martin. But, He said he wouldn't do mornings again.

What I find extremely funny about these radio execs is. When one format fails. They make a new one with all the same crap. Then expect it to do better. There is always short term success. Because thats all these idiots think about. Is short term profits. Also, I've noticed lately that Kiss FM and Mix are starting to play almost the exact same music. Except the rap on Mix. Whats the point of me listening to Mix or Kiss when all I hear is the same crap?

I picked up a book called "Why Giants falls" Its about big companies falling apart. I may be wrong but it seems to me Clear channel is in stage 4. Thats grasping at straws and the execs are in denial. But that doesn't matter. They'll just file bankruptcy again and continue failing. Bankruptcy doesn't fix the problem. The debt and financial condition of a company isn't the problem. its a symptom of the problem......

Taking lex and terry off the air more is going to do nothing but make their ratings go down. i'll be surprised if the eagles ratings don't go down with it. Because they are obviously both tied together...Of course it won't be the eagles fault. Because Clear Channel does everything right ;D
 
Since when do radio suits listen to complaints? I think this is Clear Channel's way of phasing out the talent. .. and I use that term loosely.

This is Peter, the Managing Director of the Network. I have been a long time lurker of these boards and always enjoy everyone's opinions and thoughts - yes, even about our show.

Just wanted to clarify some stuff.

I will go ask Vince personally for an accounting of these "complaints". I can't really comment on the issues of the 9am hour and addition of music to the show locally, but this is not something that is available to all affiliates. It is something we are testing in our two PPM markets, as the remaining 30+ are all still in diary methodology.

PPM is certainly a different animal that we all are trying to understand, and as a show that has to deal with both systems - we are working very hard to find ways to best serve everyone. Most syndicated shows have "music clocks", so its not totally out of there that we'd give it a look too.

Update: I spoke to Vince. I think there was a misunderstanding somewhere. The "complaints" he has received are about the fact they are playing music in the 9am hour instead of the show. Not that there was no music during the show.

Hope that clears things up.

Sorry to interrupt, just wanted to set the record straight.

Thanks, Pete, we always appreciate someone setting the record straight. But as a rocker myself, I do find it hard to believe that other rockers would complain that they'd rather hear 2 schmucks talk versus more music. Just sayin'...
 
As a teen growing up in DFW the early 70's.... I do not remember -ANY- morning shows.... on the FM rock stations that I listened to.

I turned on my underdash FM Radio/Cassette Player to 102.1 as I drove to High School, and I remember hearing music.... good music, as I rocked out on the way to school.

I did not know I was being "under-served"......

Well Peter, I may be wrong. But it sounds like to me that Terry is getting fed up with the way things are going. Just the beat down sound in his voice tells a lot. Either lex doesn't care or he doesn't show it. But it really comes out in Terry.

I couldn't care less if you are on the eagle or not. Because I listen on XM now. Tell that to the PD at the eagle and all the advertisers. The only reason i got XM is to listen to you guys (Lex and Terry) Because I got tired of the eagles way of doing things as well as all the other crap on DFW radio.......

Gonna have to go ahead and sort of....agree with you here. I tried to listen to 'em. I really did. But the level of ******baggery was too high.

I settled on Bo & Jim. They've got that "wacky morning show" vibe, but they play music and then interject with something that's usually at least a little funny. Either way, being on night shift means I only listen from the start of the show until I get home. Bo & Jim are just more entertaining.

Wrong segment, the right one is "Best Friends". I thought it was kinda funny.
