KEGL

Let the disagreeing commence. I stand by that.

I don't have an opinion. But I'll share this. A few years ago, John Allers was hosting a music intensive morning show at WRFF Alt 104.5 in Philadelphia. He left for Audacy, and revived KVIL, where he doesn't have a morning show. When he left Philly, iHeart replaced him with Woody. The ratings dropped and they haven't recovered. So now John Allers is in Dallas, and he's going to be competing against the show that replaced him. I just find all of that interesting.

The fact is that by putting a national show in mornings, iHeart takes pressure off the ratings. Because local PD & GM aren't responsible if it gets a 1 share.

I've listened to the show. It isn't bad.

And it ain't good.

And that's the kiss of death. I WOULD say Ben and Skin fall under that umbrella, but they're just bad - and it doesn't fit.

If it doesn't have a sarcastic, mouthy edge, it isn't going to work on the frequency 97.1 - period.

Let the disagreeing commence. I stand by that.
I’m 32, and I’d rather hear the KEGL playlist than Ben and Skin who I’ve listened to several times. They’re “dad talk” and painfully boring. I’m guessing they stayed on with KEGL because they had a contract to fulfill. Whether they will be renewed will likely depend on the ratings.

I will say, KEGL not being music intensive this early in, especially after just ditching The Freak, is a bad move IMO. You’re almost bringing The Freak back with rock music in middays and nights with a few tracks thrown in other times.

isnt woody more for alternative rock stations? Altern and rock audiences aren’t the same. Casual listeners who enjoy a Glass Animals or Tame Impala song, won’t listen to Seether, Ozzy and Three Days Grace

Yeah but with the mavericks on 97.1 it’s just not a good idea to “fire” people who work for the Mavericks

Have you listened to Woody? How many songs does he play? KEGL can program their own music if it's an issue.

BTW others here have noted some similarities in playlists between KVIL and KEGL.

Ben and Skin, who have never gone an hour without promoting themselves or one of their partners on air or online, make absolutely no reference to KEGL in their social media profiles. It's almost certain that they've been told that they have no future there.

I listened today during the 5:00 hour. I heard 10 minutes of spots. They went into an old Motley Crue song, and then it was Ben and Skin. The 1st 7 minutes was talking up some restaurant. The rest of the break was about football. Then back in to another 10 minute stopset. They seem to have free reign to promote anything they want to, and I'm sure it's all their sh*t or their buddy's sh*t. This is a top 5 market. It ain't Talladega, AL.

Second, the biggest issue with the music is it's age. The 2nd issue with it is the alternative stuff. This is exactly like before. It's such an easy fix, yet they just continue to go this route. If you catch someone setting themselves on fire twice, intervene. On the 3rd try, hey good luck with that.

Why do you listen to this station if you hate the music and Ben & Skin so much?

Especially when KVIL is right there playing KEGL's greatest hits and playing new music by core KEGL artists? Look at the logs I posted. KVIL is playing the new Pearl Jam, the new Green Day, the new Foo Fighters, and the new Linkin Park. And while I didn't catch it during my scan, I know they're playing the new Papa Roach on heavy as well. They're also still playing the two TikTok-popular songs by metal band Bad Omens a decent amount. KEGL isn't touching any of that right now.

KVIL is still committed to Alternative first, even though Indie 88.1 and KXT both get to that stuff better and more comprehensively. But KVIL covers enough of the Rock lane that KEGL really must find a strong, fresh angle to get some of their listeners back.

I get the sense that's not the goal. They are playing fewer currents this week than last week.
Is the playlist tightening? I fully expected to see complaints about repetition in this thread by now. The first days of a new format can be "oh wow," but when those same songs start coming around a few days later, cue the whining.

Rather than comparing KEGL to KVIL, you should compare KEGL to KZPS. That seems more of the direction.

KEGL is an edgier version of KZPS with some newer songs.

According to Mediabase, they're programmed by the same person.
