Keith Bilbrey Crashing At The Hippie Pad Evenings

Longtime WSM AM/FM/TV/GOP alum Keith Bilbrey moves into the Hippie commune April 8, where he will host evenings. He will continue to be a significant part of the newly-moved Music City Roots program to be heard on Wednesday evening at the station.

Great news for Bilbrey! Hoping that he will also stay involved with Larry's Country Diner, and that it will open soon! (Bellevue location.) Of course, there is that little matter that someone has to BUILD it first!

Meanwhile, Hippie just played "Horse with No Name" twice within about a 10-minute period.

Cool. I'll have to check that out. I used to really enjoy his shows on WSM. It's going to be weird hearing him play the classic hits format.

Okay, this is gonna really mess this all up, but Keith will be doing only one hour from 7-8P weeknights, except on Wednesday, when the MCR will obviously from 7-10P. And during that one hour on M, T, Th and F it will be a heavy percentage of Americana-themed music hosted by Keith. Doesn't mean there won't be any Hippie music in there. Just not much. Who'd ever thunk Keith would be back on the air like this? Go figure! Doesn't get much bigger than that! As for Keith playing classic rock, well, he's spun his fair share of light rock and even a lot of Hippie music back when it was current hits. Joe Case will be doing 8-12 after Keith.

uh oh???? ..... Maybe that was a just a friendly tribute to the long lost RQQ.

I like Keith and this is not meant towards him in any way...but "do what you do, do well." We have Music City Roots and now an hour of Americana each night on a Classic Hits station. Really? What's next? Crook & Chase?

When is radio in Nashville gonna stop using retreads.
Get Original!
Bring some fresh new talent to town.
How hard can it be!
Geez!

It won't matter to me what they put on 94.5 Hippie Radio because I can't pick it up where I live because 94.7 The Country Giant out of Cookeville. Anything that airs on 94.5 or 102.5 The Game, you can forget about picking up once you cross the Rutherford County line in LaVergne.

I was kinda sorta thinking the same thing. But at the same time, I still miss the Phoenix. That was one station which, unfortunately, never rose from the ashes.

But the Even Stevens songwriter program on Sunday evenings, while also a very interesting and informative program, skews a little too "country" for a "hippie" station.

Hey, I'm available! 8)

My lack of gin and late nite post last nite was backasswards. Keith IS playing the Hippie format, with a few Americana songs in the hour and gearing the music a bit to reflect local musicians, writers and artists, but it will be mostly the normal format. Apologies for upsetting the board. Rock n roll lives on...

All valid points Even is a terrific songwriter..but primarily country...when I heard about his show I thought ..well Sunday nights..who's listening..I bet it is a good show..but would fly much better on a country station...nothing against Kieth..but HE is COUNTRY..and knows it better than most....not what I'd call the best fit for that format..but again..look at the time slots..What that station needs is LOCAL talent that knows Nashville..lived, worked, and breathed rock from a local standpoint..personality radio..plenty of major talents on this board..shove 'em in the pilots seat..shut the door..and leave them alone...welcome back real radio...hell most of us could work cheap at our age.. :D

Talking over the lyrics, stumbling thriugh liners vs. voice-tracked perfection, laughing at things only Nashvillians get, actually playing a request? What? You actually think real listeners want real radio, Pat?? Hell yes they do!

You betcha we do! Oh, and where is this voice-tracked perfection? I've heard a bunch of "playlist misalignment" from most trackers. And real listners would like the real time every once in a while rather than a ballpark estimate from a voice track.

If a station is in "HD" mode the correct time is a guess anyway.

Except for talking over the lyrics, I would agree with most of that.

I would add to that, a correct temperature, rather than an approximate estimate from the voice track. Nothing against Joe Case; he is great as their weatherman. I should also add that Hippie's own voice-trackers have played in the wrong places, or even twice in a row, or whatever.

Should add to what I said the other day, the two (almost) back-to-back airings of the horse which shall remain nameless occurred around 10:00 a.m., near the shift-change from Lucky to Spyder. Important clue there for you all! ;D
